Daughter of the Tides 2-2-01 (Song)

by Phil Laws   Jan 20, 2008

Under calico constants
In confusion of the currents
There's a she that past time sent
Stable flow beyond consent

She is the Daughter of the tides
Reach and collapse, on sand she rides
I watched her even slide
Then I stepped in out of stride

And I felt I was saved
I could walk with water guides
Falling right with those waves
Moving all of these tides
I could swim with the air knaves
Caress these clouds with pride
Pulling down the rain they gave
She made me feel untied
I could climb beyond sea spray
Just as she extends away
From high, pondered those lengths
To gird up all my strengths
As I settled on my wall
Deaf to splash in passions call
Then I returned to the bay
Weak again to meek sea spray

She is the daughter of the tides
I am earth-shy while she bides
But soon she will decide
To switch the shore she rides

So she shifted beyond ken
Then I came to the cliff again
"I can't converse with her waves,
Swim or dance the way she craves."
"She flows towards then away,
Traveling far not to stay."
"With all contact too far spread,
She's left an empty ocean bed."

She is the daughter of the tides
When will she finally decide
And after all I've tried
I end up docked at bay denied
She is the daughter of the tides
I cannot be the earth she hides
I felt her even slide
Then I stepped out into stride

Under calico constants
In confusion of the currents
There's a she that past time sent
Stable flow beyond consent
