Mama My Best Friend
By: Whitney Henry (byrd)

Youve always been that helping hand.
You took the time to understand.
I'll always be your one and only boy.
You were my laughter and joy.

You've always been that special mother,
That was all it was, there was no other.
One day your life had changed,
Diseases took control and rearranged.

You'd walk in circles, didn't know what to do.
Then you couldn't remember my name and it broke my heart in two.
You were still my mother, but the one I didn't know.
I had to face the facts and try to let it go.

As long as you were alive, I did fairly well.
But one day your life had changed pneumonia took its spell.
I held mama's hand I knew you wouldn't last long.
Mom it was hard, but I had to be strong.

God took his hand, & laid it upon your chest.
He whispered "come my suffering angel, come to my eternal rest.
With one last breath, you slipped away.
It was January 1 New Years Day.

I miss you more with each passing day.
Why? Why did god take my mama away?
Life had plans for you, Mama had to go.
I'll always love you, which you already know.

I was sitting with mama, cold and clammy in her bed.
I knew the doctor, had words I had dread.
I'm sorry he said I knew mama was gone.
I was your only son; you were always there to lean on.

Time has gone by; things still are not the same.
You have a great-grandson, Blake is his name.
Mama I wish your life, didn't have to end.
I'll always love you mama, you're my best friend.
