High School Soldier

by Jes Miller   Jan 26, 2008

She met him in high school,
For they have been together since,
They lived happy as ever,
For they had love like no other,
But then the phone rang,

Next day he was in his uniform,
For he needed to go back to war,
Her heart broke as he took each step closer to the plain,
Tears streamed down their face in fear,
For this may be the last time they ever see each other again,

He is miles away now sitting in a ditch,
For she sits at home in chair,
He holds a firearm,
For she holds a picture of him,
He cries of pain,
For she cries of loneliness,

The door bell rang,
For it was near midnight,
She opened the door and knew her life was going to change,
The officers held her as she cried,
For just two days ago she was in the arms of a soldier
