Summer Killed The School Day

by XSugarSexSuicideX   Jan 31, 2008

Summer sun, high and mighty in the clear blue sky,
Brighter than the fluorescent lights in the school hallways,
Warmer than the radiators that claim to heat the classroom,
Kinder than the newest teacher proctoring detention,

And the summer grass, green and bright,
Waiting for kids to kick a soccer ball over it,
Beckoning them to use their textbooks as pillows,
And fall asleep in the crisp fresh smells,

Oh, summer pools! With crystal clear waters,
Toes slowly dipped in, testing the temperature,
Cupped cold in warm hands that thank God it's not snow
Or homework or report cards or anything like that,

Yes, summer killed the school day,
For how could it survive in the gentle breeze that
Pulled students out of their beds and tossed them
Into their favorite season, their saving season,

The summer brought out the kids in everyone,
For the teachers don't mourn the death of the school day,
They say a quick prayer and walk away,
Hoping that summer will stay longer this year...
