Member Recognition

Hey guys,
first of all, I would appreciate you taking the time to read this post and share your thoughts with me. Actually TJ, Sylvia and me would like to ask you for a favor. We realised that our new members barely get any feedback, if any at all. How are we supposed to find new talents if we don't look at our new members? We know that some of you actually spend their time on going through new members and commenting on their work, which is really appreciated. We're not asking you to look at everybodys poems, but I think it'd already make a difference if the active and veteran members would just check out one poem a day. Pick any poem that catches your eye and comment, it's not like it takes hours to do. Like that we'll encourage the new members to keep coming here and continue writing, we might even find hidden talents and I think that's what we want to archieve, isn't it? Finding talented people, regardless how long they've been on this site or how many friends they have, simply by checking one poem a day. If everybody did that, we'd probably know about even more talents.

I'm sure all of you can remember how tough it was to get people to look at your poems when you first came here. It might have been a little frustrating not to see a comment, so why not make it easier for our new members now?

In case you do manage to find a good poet, share a link with us, so that we may take a look aswell.

I don't think it would hurt any of us to look at new members and for that matter existing members that aren't well known and read their poetry. You never know what you will find by doing this.

I found this person, new to the site. So far there is only one poem posted by the writer. I have to say, it wasn't badly written.

I check out the new members list and read five newbies a day I don't always comment, though. I've been crazy busy and haven't been commenting on many poems lately, but I always do read and share the ones I really like.

Thank you guys for posting this up here. I always look for new writers whose pieces are worthwhile.

I'd suggest something, though, something Amanda has done before a couple of months I guess and I appreciated it a lot. We will make a thread for hidden talents and anyone who sees a new poet will post the link to his profile so we can all read the good work. :)

Or, I guess a compaign would help too, three or four members pick good reads and post them on here, I don't know, I'm ready for everything you guys would ask. :)

Both of these writers have lots of comments on their poetry and one I know for sure is already in a club.

What we need to look at are the newest members who do not have any comments or very few of them. To perhaps find that hidden gem of a writer. I have spent the afternoon reading new members and found only one that I thought worth a comment.

Connie, Amreen is a she! lol.

Sylvia, yes, maybe they do, but not as appreciated as should be, I believe Ronel belongs to the most awesome writers on here.

If I find someone interesting in the forums, I check their poetry out. I think that is a very fair and simple system really.

It doesn't hurt to check out others that aren't in the forum,. Everyone is here to share , if we can't take some time to encourage then we are less then a poet.
We navigate to our favorites ignoring the others.

I think you misunderstood, Nano. Sylvia didn't mean YOU wanted comments. What she said is that the purpose of the thread was to get people to not only share links of new members but also to comment on new members poems, for support, and you haven't commented. So she was inviting you to comment on that new member's poem(s) you liked, since they'll hardly know you read or liked it if you didn't. Nothing to do with you wanting comments.

Well, a comma after Poetess would have helped.I read it this way:

"Poetess has wondered if you all were going to have time to go back and comment one of her poems"

Princess thank you for explaining what I meant. I explained the intent of this thread and I certainly did not say that The Poetess was asking for comments on her on poems.

I think it's important to not only comment on 'new' members but also members of this site who are rarely if ever read and have been here for a while.

I created a thread a while ago that pertained to 'hidden talents' I don't remember where it is. But there was a good list of new and current members who weren't very well read by others of this site.

I think this is a great idea but feel it should encompass more then just our new members.
