Janis wish list

We had many changes that took place over the past year, but it appears that most of the dust has settled. By now we've gotten used to most of the new experiences and have had time to reflect on their wisdom. Perhaps some seemed like a good idea at the time, but now we've had a chance to live with it we want to rethink what's possible [pardon to AT&T].

Let's round up the glitches, pet peeves, suggestions and desires into one thread, which will be carried into the mod room for the next time Janis deigns to grace us with his presence.

1. Remove the auto-scramble on the poetry nomination page. Better to keep the ranking static by date of nomination.

2. Tighten up security on the nomination page so false votes are eliminated.

3. Provide for Club Managers to be able to transfer their powers to another when they leave a club. When a club manager quits & then comes back, allow her to regain her manager status. On the same note, if a club manager leaves without transferring powers, allow for a way that the mods can transfer these powers to a member selected by the club.

4. Fixing the spell check

alternatively, allow account to be transferred to new e-mail account.

6. Automatic warning to people who send out the same message to multiple members s/he has not contacted before.

7. Allow editing of Thread titles by mods and club thread titles by club manager and allow OP to spell check their own title.

8. "Previous" and "next" buttons to maneuver through a list of poems (such as your own poems, those of another, contest nominations, etc.) [Great suggestion Chelsey!]

9. Fix the glitch so that love/friendship poems can be nominated.

10. Have an option when replying to a forum post, that that post will appear at the top of your post so its clear you are quoting it. It is somewhat hard to describe but a lot of websites have the feature and it might be a nice little addition on the luxury/non-essential Janis to-do list

11. Updating/editing the 'Other websites, poetry resources' section of the website links with other active or established or more useful poetry websites. [thanks for these 3, Colm]

12. Ability to delete sent messages (PMs) [thanks, Connie]

13. Ability to see who has marked your poems as their favorites. [from Hannah]

14. There is possibly an issue with the links to the award criteria. [xXxTheGothicQu eenxXx]

15. Let Assistants send Global Messages to their club.

16. Some browsers prevent some members from commenting or sending PMs. (ie Iinternet Explorer for Britt ). Some members have been unable to comment or PM apparently on multiple browsers (ie Khalid). Some members are unable to use various buttons while on cell phone (ie Noura).

17. Allow Italics in poems & forum posting

"Not sure if this has been suggested before, forgive me if so, I dont visit the suggestion forum often, but I was just wondering has anyone ever thought of a next button?.....Like if we click on an authors poem, there should be a next button to read poetry submitted before that...rather than going back and having to click on each individual poem....Sometimes I like reading a few of peoples poems at a time, I just think a next button would make the process easier than pressing back and pressing another poem if you felt like viewing a number of poems by a specific author....do I make sense?"

Good list and idea Larry. I'll probably think of more and edit my post if/when I do. I'd say #2 is a priority, and the spell check thing has really bugged me for a while. I'd also like to add:

- Fix the glitch so that love/friendship poems can be nominated for the weekly contest (last time I tried a few days ago the problem persisted, I see some love poems nominated but I think these may be members changing the genre to be nominated and then changing back again?)

- Have an option when replying to a forum post, that that post will appear at the top of your post so its clear you are quoting it. It is somewhat hard to describe but a lot of websites have the feature and it might be a nice little addition on the luxury/non-essential Janis to-do list.

It's not really anything big, but I'd like to see who has favorited my poems, just curiousity I suppose. Just thought I would mention it.

Is anyone else still having issues with nominating "love/friendship" poems?

Since when can we facebook or tweet any poem here? Am I just totally unobservant? I am. But how unobservant?

Ehh, nothing much, and I think Ive said this somewheres before, anyways, it would be awesome if we could categorize our own poems.
Itll be easier to find a poem when you wanna read other's work, specially when youre only into sad poems or funny poems or whatever poems.
... And itll make it easier too, going to older poems(like what I mostly do). Cause its a bit, teensy weensy, just a little difficult when theyre all jumbled up specially if they got something like 34768940211111 poems already. :)

Noura: You've had multiple problems, but I cannot tell which are general problems and which are due to telecommunication issues. I'm not even sure which buttons you refer to.

I mean it didn't prompt me that I had the message.

I didn't get any notifications either. I just got this weird psychic vibe to check my private messages and there it was, lol. :D
... Btw, I was hoping to ask a mod bout that message, a question or two. Anybody?

I don't remember ever getting a notification on the other ones either. Glitchy glitch.

Hi everybody! I doubt that someone will hear me because this is the third time I've been screaming that neither the comment nor the vote buttons are working in my screen. I can neither pm any member. I'm sure there's something wrong. But let's speak honestly. If I know P & Q will not give me help this gives me a message that my presence here is no longer recommended, right? You never know how much frustrated I am, because I can't comment or vote or PM other members. Please provide me with a complete clarification for my status. This has nothing to do with my nationality because at the present time I'm out of the country. Several times i tried to avoid direct confrontation with sensitive members to avoid the misleading speech and to avoid making them angry of me. Several times I tried to be as much useful to others whoever they are.
Please be positive in evaluating my situation.

I don't know what the previous suggestions were Khalid, but are you unable to use it on all browsers, or just one?

I can't see stuff on Internet Explorer that I can on Google Chrome or FireFox.

Recently I'm using google chrome in my laptop. But in my opinion this has nothing to do with voting or commenting or pm'ing because first I've been using the same browser for more than two years and second if it's the problem with browser this means I would never be able to share speech via threads, e.g. this thread, right?My problem started more than 20 days ago.

Well on IE I can't vote/comment, but I could do everything else.. so thats why I was wondering. It all came up after Janis' last batch of changes.

I'm not good with that side of computers and programming so I'm not much help.. just going off my experience.

I hope that Larry will understand my status and add my problem to the list and find a solution sooner or later.

Khalid I sent you a pm with a suggestion regarding replying to pms....not sure if you received it?

I have updated the list with the clearest language I can conceive.

However, Khalid, I would like you to do trouble shooting for me in a thorough manner:
whatever computer & browser you are now on obviously allows you to post forum messages. please attempt to do each act you could not do previously: comment on a poem, PM me & anything else you've had trouble with. Report back your results. Then switch browsers & repeat all attempts. Report back here on that browser. If you cannot post on the forum on that Browser, switch to the one you are now using & report. Then do the same with other browsers. Of course ID each browser when giving results.

PS: Don't take it personal. We're all frustrated by Janis' extended absences, not least the mods.

Here are 2 suggestions for those who cannot operate certain features of PnQ website using IE.

1) Please read this article by microsoft about how to fix these transition issues with Html 5 from older versions of Html, which is the new standard. IE 8 in particular has issues, which can be remedied by turning on the "compatibility mode" under tools.

The problem might be that Janis needs to upgrade his website to be compatible, rather than any of us. In the mid-section of the article there are suggestions for website developers (Janis):
"To give you time to transition your Web content to Internet Explorer 8 Standards mode, you can specify that your content should always be viewed in Compatibility View. To enable Compatibility View for your whole website, use Method 1."

2) I had the same problem, when I kidded with one member about Janis "taking her out selectively" :)
I resolved mine a different way, by using Google chrome frame for IE.

It did not change the appearance of my IE at all. One couldn't tell whatsoever and it still looked like my old IE 8.

I'd like the ability to be able to post pictures in club forums. It would be rather handy for picture prompt challenges, would be in the forum instead of having to go to the link(or multiple links) provided.

Please Janis / Larry, can we make it so we can delete pm's please?

We can delete inbox ones, but for some strange reason we can't delete sent messages so these remain, filling up our mail boxes!

I am seeing weird changes. My vote/praise comment/comment buttons are ginormous, as is the font telling me to vote or comment on a poem.. and it's all a different font.

It's this way on both my computer and my phone, but when I refresh it changes back to the old way. Maybe Janis is doing something, or my computer/phone is geeking out?
