Hey its me , the auther of that one poem, and yea it hurts when you have a rude comment, like the old sang goes.. "if you have nothin nice to say, say nothin at all"

  • Madison

You do have a point, and i would love to have advice on my poems that would help me out. But it's how people say it sometime that hurt the most, insted of pointing out the weakness, they put down the whole poem..

    Thats just what i think

  • FTS Miles

Completely agree, Sharon. Critique--positive and negative--is part of advancing one's art. But some of the insults that people toss around on this site are totally inappropriate and unnecessary for growth in our art.

I know that criticism is a part of life, but I think that the difference between negative and positive criticism. The negative criticism i get is usually just insults. And yes, it does make the person insulting me look dumb, but I write about what seriously hurts me and for someone to tell me that what i think, feel, or wish is Stupid, is actually pretty hurtful. And Tyrel or Tessa... if you see this keep your "no comments to yourself" I think everyone knows how you feel about me and how I'm dealing with you two.

  • Angel of Broken Dreams

I don't see why people shouldn't write negative things if they hate the poem. I don't see why they should have a reason either. People that write nice things don't have to leave a reason do they? If your so scared that your poems gonna get a bad review, don't posted at all. In the end, does it really matter if any one lese thinks your poems are stupid? You can't write for everyones tastes.
I resent the fact that you think just because some people are depressed, they would write horrible comments about everything for no reason. Get a life. You obviously don't know much about depression.

He is right, this isnt a place to whine about stuff. This site is meant to be a poetry site. This means everyone (except a few) should be prepared to take critisim since most of us (I said us!) can't write good poetry. Everyone is writing off all kinds of stuff without knowing how to write and without having any idea of what poetry is. You can't be a poet if you don't read known poetry. You can't be a poet if you don't know basic rhyme schemes. You can't be a poet if you can't spell anything right in any of your poems. This leaves us to the biggest problem. Since there are alot of non-poets here it is very difficult for good poets to get the positive reactions they deserve. Bad poems get good reviews because everyone relates to the same old theme bla bla bla and the good poems dont get any good comments because no one understands them. So please just accept the bad comments if they are written in a sensible way. We all need to hear other peoples oppinnions otherwise we will never get better at this writing thing trust me.

if i think a poem sucks i'm going to say: i think this poem sucks...

**As we have all read - intelligence just oozing out isn't it**

    and why not?!?

**Well because the point is to leave something that writer can work with DER**

if that's what i think who the he** are you to tell me what i can and can't write.

**Same as you obviously who tells me to not act like a politician - you are such a hypocrit Matt**

this isn't nazi germany... it's a poetry website...

**Funny you treat it like Nazi Germany, and then claim the crap you post is poetry, you are beyond a hypocrit now - again capitilisation please idiot!**

have you ever read any poetry criticism by famous poets?!?

**Please do educate us - as a matter of fact i'm still waiting for the curriculum to the poetry lesson you offered everyone - yet it is still to be taught, you are full if crap and a hypocrit JUSTPLAINME**

there's tons of rude sh*t left...

    **Hmmm again please further educate**

    quit being so immature

**What a laugh coming from a name caller who can't deal with reallity and creates a pathetic excuse for his reallity in a poetry website with a majority of "pimple poems" as he calls them full of teenage angst - dude act your age get a job or something - and he has the audacity to talk about maturity like he knows the meaning of the word HA HA HA**

and recognize that not all people are nice tree huggers who watch barney on television.

    **Hmmm LoL**

accept that people are opinionated and that's what makes this such a great world to live in...

**You're correct people are opinionated that doesn't mean they are educated or understand the meaning of the words once said and taken in by another person - i think we need to be constructive on others poems - honesy totally - but constructive feedback is the key words here**

    sheesh people...

  • Atahan Tolunay

    Well mr/mrs pronstar

No one will forbid you to write down your feelings and post them as poems, but what you cant expect is to get good comments from people who actually belive in writing poetry. If you dont want negative comments you should post those poems somewhere else where people read stuff like that and not on a poetry site. A poetry site is meant to be a place where poems can be discussed and where poets accept good or bad comments about their poetry. I do want to point out that there are some excellent writers in that category that are sad AND are writing good poems about it, but dont expect to get all positive comments just because you are sad if you dont write decent stuff.

    i'm the name caller...

    you call me a wanker

**You call yourself one hun - you have quoted several times on this website your enjoyed gained from self pleasuring and where I come from - thats a wanka**

    and

    a hypocrite

which is spelled with an "e" on the end of it

**My bad - you are correct, but still a wanka Lol**

also... i posted my lesson plan... you were just didn't understand it... i followed through, it was you who did not...

**Where was this posted?? I have no idea what you are talking about as initially I was willing to learn**

i tried to post poetry lessons... but eirisa here f*cked them up and surrounded my poetry lesson with thick headed comments.

**Hmm I'd say that your poetry lessons were compiled of thick headed comments is a more accurate statement he he he**

so... i will be happy to repost my lesson plan for anyone who wants to learn poetry.

**Thankyou, for once something decent from you**

read one poem by sylvia plath (www.sylviaplath.de) and email me the poem you read

    superbwriter@hotmail.com

**I will certainly take you up on that offer**

i will be more than happy to explain / talk about the poem you read with you.

**Brilliant, but you qualify to this do this how? Just curious of your experience/educational background in relation to poetry/literature, since you claim to know it all**

that was my first lesson plan which you can still find in my comments section of my poetry.

and by the way eirisa: i have a job... i'm a writer for a living... though most of the time i edit other people's writing..

**For starters it's Eirisa. You have a job *cracks up laughing*, as a writer *laughs even harder* well each to their own...you keep telling yourself that hun...or make me aware of some of your published work**

i have said these same things OVER AND OVER again... but keep trying to bring up the same arguments...

**As do you - again your point LoL**

    and i'm the immature one?!?

**Well I don't claim to know everything or put down people about their age, I don't claim to be Miss Maturity, I know I still have alot to learn and experience - so yes I guess that does make you the immature one**

you wrote a poem for me wishing death on me...

**No hun there you go saying I bring up the same arguments again and again and here you go AGAIN with this "You wished death upon me in a poem crap" LoL! Ahhhh I find this so funny, did I upset you with it? Obviously for you to continually bring it up - so I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire - not my problem don't really care about it as much as you do huh?**

i may call some names and criticize people's writing horribly, but i have never wished death on anyone...

**No just spread racial hate, make people feel down about themselves, criticise and make other feel bad about themselves so you can get a slight ego boost - I wrote a funny comment in your comments, stop whinging cry baby get Mamma to change your diaper and wipe those damn tears you big sook!**

    you wished death on me...

**So Mr Attitude - what do you care - I thought you were ruthless and didn't give a crap about what others thought - obviously not hypocrite**

that makes you a seriously messed up person

**No I just seriously don't like you**

Ah, blame the spell checker, it classes all abbreviated words as slang and just does not like apostrophies! (Or quotation/speech marks for that matter... Ok, I'm drifting off subject...) In order to get your poem in the right category, you have to change a few things and it well and truly sucks I know!

did YOU even look it up Matt? (I did before I suggested that you guys do it)

You can look it up by "Spelt" or by "Spell" both entries give a definition.

For spelt you need to click on the spelt2 in the little box for the definition... it says:
    Main Entry: 2spelt
    Pronunciation: 'spelt
chiefly British past and past participle of SPELL

When you look up "spell" it's right there on the first page:

    Main Entry: 1spell
    Pronunciation: 'spel
    Function: verb
    Inflected Form(s): spelled /'speld, 'spelt/; spell·ing

OK, so the first definition says "chiefly British" but that doesn't make it wrong...

Why is it such a big deal anyway?

i was reading this poem and she related to me alot and this gurl said it sucked and i was really hurt i actually cried when i commented on her poem, because she touched me so deep and i was really hurt when a peom can touch me so deep and because their peotry is different its not right and it sucks if you dont like it dont read it

im very disappointed that many of you think that you cant right peotry for example this one earlier said "Everyone is writing off all kinds of stuff without knowing how to write and without having any idea of what poetry is. You can't be a poet if you don't read known poetry. You can't be a poet if you don't know basic rhyme schemes. You can't be a poet if you can't spell anything right in any of your poems. " that made me mad because you dotn have to rhyme to write a poem to be a poem is an answer to you questions of why you feel the way you do, i cant explain they way i feel unless i write it down, excepcially when im depressed and when a person tells me it sucks i really want to cry because i want some help and the only way to get my pain out is writing so think about if someone said your writing sucked and they way people react is rude if you cant accept their writing then do comment dont read their peoms I even have my a warning tell my readers that my poems arent as good and i would like some suggestions and a warning of my poems dont rhyme if you dont like it bite your tongue and move along, it makes me sick how you can be so rude. it gets on my nerve how you can be this way

  • unprotected lover

    Justplainme
I can accept you comments go ahead and read my poems and say all the stuff you want to but it hurts when you say that i have mental problems because you know what i have been depressed too long to even explain my feelings by talking so i tell it through my writing and try to explain not to hurt yourself cuz i had a sis who cut and maybe that is why im messed up you know what until youve been in their life dont say shit so shut your mouth you are so rude do you have any writing on here i would like to read it, and by the way the reason why there shouldnt be rude commetents on here many writers are young teen years like 13-15 and you know what that is when they build their selfesteem and pretty soon they do not show their work and cant think of anyway to deal with pain so shut up unless you understand the pain me and many ohers have dealt with

  • Sean Allen

Laura, concerning the building of self-esteem:

I know that you're looking out for your age group (and nearly mine, I'm only 17), but what you're talking about steps out of the bounds of this site. Quite frankly, this is not a site to build your self-esteem. Often, that is the end result of a lot of friendly support by members who say they like things when they don't (this isn't always true, but often is). Your poetry may or may not suck, but the fact that it is up on this site means that it is open to criticism (note:: criticism does not mean insults, it means the reviewer's opinion, put in words that are not offense, and the reviewer's suggestions for improvement). I wouldn't be rude about your poems, but I would give you my honest impression, even if I knew it would bother you a bit. Caring for another person doesn't mean sheltering them from the truth; it may hurt, but you should learn from your mistakes. If there was no constructive criticism, then we would be constantly reinventing the wheel (all on our own, on top of that).

  • Hope

I think that the young poets on this site can take the criticism, but it is just that they are put off by all the extra redundant, superflous information. For example from the top of my head, lol, i might have to swear, "That was a f***ing plain poem, the spelling was as bad as a grade 1 student and the grammar was s***"
In this case, the unnecessary information is the:
    1. f word (It is not useful advice, merely serves to attack the poet's emotions)
    2. the simile (You could just say, take caution in ur spelling of particular words)
    3. s*** (well, again not constructive)

At school, I am sure ur teachers don't swear or give u crap about a high school essay u wrote 'cause
    1. It could jeopardize their job
    2. all they want is to help you improve so you can communicate efficiently and with that acquired skill, you can pursue the career of ur dreams and be successful in life

Personally, i want the truth no matter what, but it is the way of hearing it that seems to be the problem with poets on this site. My point is that you can critque someone's work and get ur message accross to the poet not with profanity, but in a more considerate and professional manner. Take care everybody!!! 8)

OK I am truly confused on how that all connects to poetry. ok I can see that you may not like all the poetry. I admit that I have crossed a poem, where I was like That was the stupidest poem, but I did not tell them "that sucked" instead I told her that there were somethings that she can change on her poem, if she wanted to hear them, in fact I had my friends ask me how to get their poems, I am not saying that you shouldnt be able to add negative comments but avoid comments such as that was really bad or that sucked because that lowers many young poets trying to improve their work, I added my work here so I could improve my work and telling me that it was bad or it sucked isnt telling me anything, try to aviod using phrases like that and tell them what they can do better. Im sorry if it came across like I was against you, its nothing personal its just that people really need to watch what they say, you can not tell me that you wouldnt be the least bit mad that you recieved a comment like that. Oh, by the way when you brung up that movies, plays, and so on get harsh reviews they are more grown up and understand that but there are many young poets just trying to improve their writing. so just watch the phrasing and ages. all and all peace out

  • unprotected lover

i said it didnt flow easily. thats a thing to improve. so ha. i just said i didnt like it and your rates show that not alot of people like them eirther. and you know what you insulted me too by saying i have mental issues oh ya and im not stupid or high but none of your poems make any sense i got totally lose in your peoms i just voiced my opinion so lets just drop it inbetween us and move on i wont say anything if you dont so leave me out of your comments and ill do the same

  • Scarlette

To the person that said people have every right to leave nasty reviews and not have a reason - you'r dead wrong. You mentiond that people don't need a reason for leaving wonderful reviews, so why should they have a reason for terrible ones? That's ridiculous, on so many levels. People post their poems up on this site to get feedback.

If someone leaves a review saying "this was really wonderful," that obviously means that the poem in review was perfect the way it is. If, however, someone leaves a comment such as this; "This is a terrible poem. I hate it."... that doesn't help at all. You're obviously indicating that something's wrong with the poem, yet you're not pointing out what. Peole who leave such comments should seriously get over themselves.

If, for example, Edgar Allen Poe (I'm not sure if I spelled that right), comes on here and tells you that you're poem is horrible, at least he has ground to stand on. However, who are any of you to tell anyone that their poem sucks? What ground do you have to stand on? Are you a world famous poet? Sure, you have taste, and an opinion, and obviously the right to think whatever you want - but keep your nasty comments to yourself. (that's stretching it just a bit, with the whle Edgar Allen Poe bit).... You're not helping anyong with your rudeness. All you're doing is making the person feel anxious and terrible about themselves. If you have an aching need to say something negative, at least say it with a bit of class.

This is a poetry site, not a site for immature people who have nothing better to do than to run around rating people's poems low. I'm sure there are other sites to channel your immaturity on. At least attempt to be a wee bit professional.

  • miss scooby

    Scarlette;
I totally agree with you EXCEPT for "what kind of ground do any of you have to stand on, are you a famous poet" I must have missed the memo..lol but um, since when must fame have to play apart in the way we veiw others poetry. Even thou, Edgar allen poe may be famous you describe a clear although disturbing image that its okay for someone to say "I hate your poem" with no reason because he/she is famous. But if you are an average joe......no one gives a rats what you have to say because either 1.)your oppinion doesnt matter or 2.) you have no valid ground to stand on.

    {In General}
Some people may choose to leave nasty comments which is fine, But i don't think we have a right to see them less as people because they are not a "famous poet" so to speak. In life you will get horrible reveiws on the way you present yourself, write, look, see things, etc etc. But the best part about it is not caring because it will only get to that other person who is trying to be a ------- about your poems.

As for the Maturity level around here it is quite high but i will agree if yah are going to read a poem you are entitled to WHATEVER you want to say, but have the curtiousy to professional about it and respectful. If you hate the poem tell the poem but explain why and how it may be needed for improvement. Flat out saying you suck will result in a conflict.

  • Scarlette

Scooby: That IS why I said I was probably stretching it there a bit, with that comment. I just feel that poets that have historical importance KNOW what they're talking about, because they've had years and years of experience. Some people on here don't even submit their own poems. They just prance around, rating people's poems low - leaving remarks such as "you're horrible. stop writing poetry." What does that do? What does that prove on your part? Their ignorance becomes more clear when they don't tell you why it's bad. They don't bother to analyse it properly.

James Daron Starr: Oh, ha ha. Like I've never heard that before... and Brett Butler? Maybe there's humour there that I've missed or something. I thought it was Rhett. And it's "Frankly, my DEAR, I don't give a damn." If you want to make fun of it, at least do it properly. Okay, I'm totally kidding. :)

Anyway, everything I said, it's just my opinion. There are a lot of immature people on this site. It's sad, because it's a very pretty site, with great potential. If it weren't for the idiots, it would probably be one of the best poetry sites on the internet.

  • Scarlette

    JustPlainMe:

I don't agree with that. if you're more than capable of critiquing writing, then why do you feel as if you don't have to tell anyone why you think they're poetry is bad? A decent critic points out the flaws, maybe suggests ways to improve it, instead of flat out saying it's pathetic.

If you wish to tell someone their poem sucks, without giving your explanation for this, you can most likely expect conflict. Like I said, it shows no class at all, and it lacks any dignity in the reviewer. It might or might not offend the poet, but even if it does offend someone, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't "read their poetry outside of themselves"

    1. Laura, calm down. Please.

    2. The rating system is a terrible way to make comparisons between you and JustPlainMe.

    3. People are going to be critical of you throughout the journey of your life. If you can't work out a way to filter out unconstructive criticism, then you're going to have a rough time.

    4. I do agree that, as a poetry site, the comments should be of a constructive nature. However, I dislike comments like "wow, great" as much as I dislike comments like "hated it, stop writing." Someone said that when someone says that a piece of poetry is great, that is because it is perfect. Well, either that person commenting is lying, or they just aren't looking hard enough for flaws. Flaws most certainly exist in poetry. As much as we may worship the poets of the past, there are flaws in their writing as well (albeit far fewer than the flaws in the writing on this site).

Rude comments, are... well... Rude of course. but growing up to constructive crittisism, i can understand to some point when the rude comment is followed by their advise. But we're all mature here.. well we all have the ability to act mature. and,.. leaving rude comments i think is just... irrelivant. i grew up to people always downing me, so im used to it. but when someone i dont know, judges me. that pisses me right off. so yes, i agree... rude comments are remarkably immature. but If the person comments back with the same maturity level as the person who gave the rude comment, then they are just as bad as the person they are complaining about.

    Just one question.
Do you really think they want the attention were giving them by talking about it? YES! of course.. hehe, thats what my mom always told me when someone would down me. ... she'd say "Courtney... you know you're the better person when you just are reasonable with the person, and dont stoop down to thei level, and the only real reason people try to down you is when they know that its something that can get to you. . . thats the whole reason they do it.. if it doesnt get to you, or you dont show that it doesnt get to you... then....chances are... they'll quit."

Yea... i type too much. hehe.

wow thats creepy my mom says things along the same lines. I just dont like it when people go "that sucks!" because it has nothing to fall back apon, nothing to change. and maybe its just cuz they dont write the same type of poetry. its wrong to judge by what the write about. if you dont like it and have no reason to or nothing to change about it dont read it
