i would go with DK because their songs had a lot of meaning behind them and the guitar was crazy awesome

    Your choice?

    I laughed out loud, literally.

The Sex Pistols will always be the kings of Punk.

You are kidding right, Do you even know the other two bands?

sex pistols and Ramones Were and are controlled by the mainstream of music, (that sure is punk of them just like simple plan and green day LMAO)

    Yeah...ok.

But you can't say that the Sex Pistols and the Ramones didn't start it.

Lol, the only punk band that I ever REALLY liked was Pennywise. But just because I like them and they didn't go mainstream doesn't mean that they're the kings of punk.

Between the two, I'd have to say DK. But Black Flag did eventually introduce us to Henry Rollins. but that was way after punk had been firmly established and mainstreamed.

I've always attributed the 'starting of punk rock' to THE WHO.

Though, unlike DK, I think Sid Vicious would've gladly accepted the title of 'king of punk rock.' and no one would challenge him.

I grew up with the british punk movement. I never really got into the Ramones, but I do recognise thier imput.

My personal favourites are Carter: The Unstoppable Sex Machine. (Kevin Murray should know these guys)

The Stranglers were also one of the best.

Pitchshifter innovated the punk scene with albums Infotainment and www.pitchshifter.com after a promising start with Submit.

Brushing the punk scene were Killing Joke, but they are so unique I never categorise them. Forget Jeff Buckley, Geordie Walker is the best guitarist in all genres.

"Out of the two I would have to say Dead Kennedy's but I would call neither of them the 'king of punk'. "

    Ditto.

um...well my mom got me into both DK nd Black Flag cuz her favorite band IS black flag. (My mom is only 29 so we're really close nd she listens to awesome music. I dont know why I telling you this =) lol.) but yeah Sex Pistols are awesome!

No, Sid Vicious is teh sex...the rest of the band never really lived up to the rest of that title. Johnny Rotten's later projects kept delving further into the reggae movement, which, while turned out some good stuff, not comparable..

I mean, nothing says pure sex like murder/suicide, right? lol

Sid Couldn't play the bass at all, and if he was still around people wouldn't like him as much. If oyu people would get out and actually listen to DK you might learn something about punk, why is there so much crap about how good the sex pistols were, they werent that good, they were just like on magiznes and when they dint get picked to be in the rock and roll of fame the complained all over the place about it, DK And Black Flag actually did something for punk other than sell it to major companies, they played they're music that pissed people off so much that they need a nice local band to make punk seem nice and baby like (aka the ramones) Sex pistols were untalented idiots who if still were going on today would be as bad as Good Charlottet

Benji and Joel Madden haven't committed any murder/suicides.

I'm all for THE RAMONES. and THE WHO.

Though I do love DKs anti-Hippie stance, while still remaining decidely anti-Republican. They had no sense of 'stage presence.'

The Sex Pistols are the kings of punk. No arguement. They were also the first people to say the "F" word on TV (I dont want penalty points :]) which isn't punk, just useless information. The also enver won any awards. Yet rule the punk genre.

Braeden, are you getting your knickers in a twist because the sex pistols are universally known as the kings of punk?

I think the Dead Kennedys are ok, but in all seriousness Sig Sig Sputnik had a bigger impact
on the scene. In fact an old local group, spunky birthday rocked much more. Kirk Brandon (Theatre of Hate, Spear of Destiny, 10:51 etc) and his menagerie of bands have had more influence of musical styles through out the years whilst the Dead Kennedys influence no one else I've heard. Let's just say that they're generic at best.

Come on, no need to cry and throw the cutting implements out of your pram because no one agrees with you, they're the kings of punk in your personal universe and I'm sure they appreciate it.

    Bret Higgins,

Give it up, you make me sound like a child who has just learnt about punk but no your wrong i love the sex pistols but i've moved from the faze of considering them the kings of punk, surely you'll see one day that the real punk rockers are influenced by such bands as DK and not of Sex pistols

  • AGirlWorthFightingFor

No, the real 'punk' rockers of today are influenced by

    THE WHO

but, who's a 'real' punk rocker anymore?

  • Bret Higgins

You're right, but it's ironic when you consider that The Who were not punk. )Google the british mod movement in the sixties.)

Tommy and Quadrophenia are classic examples of what punk was not.

People may now (mistakenly) put them into the category and perhaps The Who were an influence on the kids who grew into punk music but they certainly were not punk themselves.

And you're right, punk isn't punk anymore, everything is mainstream and intermingled in today's world where music isn't just music anymore, it's a way of life perpetuated by commercialism and profit.

That's right kids, you're punk, emo, goth and little happy trip hoppers because someone wanted your money and you fell for it, especially if you label yourself into a category and refuse to listen or like any other music genre.

One will get you ten that if you're emo/punk/goth etc. you go to hot topic or the equivolent underground store and buy pre-made gear rather than going to dillards and JC Penny to pick up a shirt/vest or pants/skirt that you have to make the theme.

    Good arguement.
