Do you think it's wrong to have more than one religion?

Yes, I believe it is wrong.
    You cannot serve two gods.

I have none, but I think that you are open minded enough to seek you answers in more than one place makes you infinitely more intelligent and open minded than the usual self rightous, brain washed believers. If the world would be a better place if people tried to find their own path instead of trying to force their ideals and beliefs on others

some religions serve the same God, just in different ways

"serving the same God in different ways" do you think God did not mentioned how we suppose to serve him. i think it's wrong to serve God by different ways, what i mean is, God has mentioned how we suppose to serve him so no different ways are allowed.

  • olivia

    ADEL-
so if no different ways are allowed then which way is allowed.

I think its ok to have more then one religion. I think if both your religions has one or same god then its ok in my book.

What about Baptists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Lutherans, etc?
They all serve Jesus Christ, but they have different beliefs. Yet, they are all different religions, are they not?

If it is two paths that you wish to pursue, my advice to you is not to focus on the human error, but the divinely inspired path

"What about Baptists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Lutherans, etc?

^ Those are just different denominations of Christianity. They all have the same basic beliefs, yet some don't believe in certain things.

For example, Pentecostals believe in speaking in tongues, but most Baptists don't. Speaking in tongues is just a sign that the Holy Spirit is in you, however just because you don't speak in tongues it doesn't mean that you don't have the Holy Spirit. The main thing is that they all believe in Jesus Christ and salvation. its kind of hard to explain, but it's still Christianity.

  • Michael D Nalley

There are also charismatic Catholics that speak in tongues. The awareness of the Holy Spirit is a very powerful thing

im with tainted beauty on this one.. you cannot serve two gods, like i noticed there are some people on this sight who claim to be half christian and half wiccan. whilst im not dissing their choices, i do find it puzzling how some one can profess to love god/believe that jesus saved them and then do their little pagan thing on the side when christianity says its wrong.
likewise with catholics and all their imagery, i went to a catholic high school and had all sorts of issues with the religious ed teachers about praying to ugly pictures when the bible says no image.. ahh i digress

Question: Does it really even matter?

Your religion isn't what's gonna 'save' you.

"um...actually some sects of Baptist's do believe in the speaking of tongues

^either that or I was at a drunken revival as a child"

^ well a lot of Baptists didn't believe in that. I know that a some Baptists do. sorry for the generalization

  • Taylor

I don't think its wrong. What I do think is wrong, however, is to be closed-minded to the teachings of other wise people and religions. Major religions teach many of the same things; the four noble truths, eight-fold path, 5 pillars, and ten commandments all encourage a general "goodness", and to be frank, many believe in the same God, just by a different name because of diverse cultures. I think people who immediately get all deffensive and prejudiced towards other religions are just plain closed-minded.
You don't think God would save ALL of the culturally diverse people who serve him?

    for Olivia

you asked which way is allowed. the answer for this is to look up. if you said it's okay to have more than one religion, then do you know that some religions say bad things about your god? are you satisfied when you know that?. do you know that some religions don't respect yours? are you still want to have more than one relegion?

    for Bob

it's a mistake to say that religion is a manmade. religion has came from the god by a messenger. people changed this religion so god sent another messenger the same thing happened until god has sent the last prophet and with him god has said that this religion will not be changed and this is what happened. for more than one thousand year this religion did not change because god promise that it will not. if you said that religion is a manmade then it's true for the previous ones because people changed them but not the last one.

  • Taylor

    Adel,

I was kind of bewildered by you post. You say a 'messenger' of some sort distributed religion? Now, I'm not saying you're wrong. Who knows? But It seems blind to think that religion is divine. It may have been, in the past. Faith is, yes. But Faith and religion aren't the same. People are so corrupted nowadays that religion is nothing more than politics. Its been so.. distorted.. that the ideal one that God had in mind had been abandoned by man.

  • waiting 4 some1

i think you misunderstood me Bob
when i said religion changed i did not mean from catholic to baptist to penecost..etc what i meant is that religion changed from Judaism to Christianity and from Christianity to Islam. all those religion actually are one because they all aiming for one thing "to worship the god him self and not anyone else with him" but since people started to change the instructions of their book. god sent another messenger with another book... up to prophet Mohammed with the holy Quran which no ones up until now could change the facts inside it or find a slightly mistake inside it. anything you doubt about life you will find the answer to it inside this book.(if you doubt me read it)
note: when you mentioned baptist, penecost, seventhday adventist. this is exactly shows how real Christianity was changed by people

  • Eibutsina

If you want to catergorise yourself as a particular religion then how can you possibly define your belief as "both"... if you honest believe in a mix of religious beliefs and morals from various sources then you have no religion...but you have faith and thats what its all about :o)

  • Eibutsina

And Adel no offence mate but you shot your argument in the foot. You say initially its wrong to worship God in any different manner than what is instructed, yet you point out above that our faith in Islam developed from Judasim and Christianity - its merely an extention of the semetic faiths...so the basis of Islam is wrong as its built on Jewish and Christian foundations???

    I think not...

  • waiting 4 some1

    to the one above ^

what i wanted to say is that Judaism and Christianity has changed by people one after another so you can't worship god by their methods because they are all wrong methods made by people. also i did not mean that islam was based on Judaism and Christianity but i said islam aims for the same thing Judaism and Christianity were aiming for before changing. and since Judaism and Christianity changed we can only worship god by islam.

  • Eibutsina

My name is Eibutsina, address me correctly firstly have some respect for a fellow sister...

I'm not arguing the validity of any of these religions but how you are trying to portray your argument Adel. The Quran is the third of the great books and what we believe to be the final work of Allah (swt) brought to us by the prophet Muhammed (pbuh). That does not make the way others practise their faith wrong, it just means it's not the right way for us, we practice our faith in Islam. Lets not get into the nitty gritty endless debate of "thier word has been changed by people etc" because thats not what this topic is even about. Its about people having multiple religious faiths and how we view that...cheers!

why would two religions be a problem?we have no idea which is 'correct' until we die so if more than one makes since to you, why not?i believe in two.
im a baptist but i also practice wicca.most people say that is controdictary because wicca is thought to be satanic worship but it worships and finds the god/goddess in all nature.its actually pretty similar to christianity also...
so i guess the point im trying to make here is, as long as it feels right and makes since to you, go with it, there is no right or wrong in your thoughts.
    blessed be

Your right Adel, I do respect what you were stating but just think its one of those endless and pointless arguments that may uproar some people in here and it's just worth it. We need to preach acceptance and respect and tolerance of all religions and practices...but you and I share the same faith mashallah my brother...

  • Eibutsina

    ms understood...

You have faith and you practice your faith in a way that best suits your needs and lifestyle, but you cannot be a baptist and a wiccan...you're in a catergory all of your own and thats fantastic - more power to you. But I dont believe you can say your this...and this...and a bit of that...as I mentioned earlier its about faith and thats what counts it, and you need not be catergorised.

    Cheers :o)

I think it depends, sometimes you can't help but

be born to a home with two religions, just believe

in what you think is right....it doesn't matter what

you have faith in just that you have faith, that's all

    that matters in the end.

  • ms.understood

^yeah, see i grew up in a baptist home & learned it s faith and there are parts i agree w/ & parts i dont.then i get to my high school & join stage crew where most of them are wiccan so i hear bits and pieces of the religion & it made sense so now my ex teaches me wicca & i practice both religions.

  • ms.understood

actually, if you think about it, which it doesnt seem that you are all that good at doing, there are plenty of things realted to wicca and christianity.im talking it that since yur psot is directly below mine and your speaking of serving 2 religions it was meant for me so this is how i will explain it.
wicca is a natural religion, meaning we find the god/goddess in all of nature, and truely, most wiccans see the god/goddess as one person-the easiest way to explain it is a kind of... scytophrenic idea where its like one person as two people-and its very similar to christians god and jesus christ... the only thing really different is that in wicca, SOME, NOT ALL, wiccans practice the craft but id you think about, all they are doing is calling the higher power as christians do with prayer.
btw, i love how the first thing out of your mouth was "you cannot serve two religions at the same time" bu then you ridicule some one else for saying the same thing except they said gods, ITS THE SAME THING MORON!!!!!!!
you may think im being harsh, but this is the exact thing i was talking about in my post before, the narrow mindedness of people!

  • melly xx

yes, I think it is wrong to have more than one religion. But that doesn't mean you can disagree with some things in your religion. I

believe that Jesus is our savoir and that there is only one God, which makes me Catholic. But I don't believe in the Lady of Fatima crap. I also believe that meditation can make you self-less, which is Buddhism. I also believe in monotheism and the Ten Commandments, which is Jewish and Chritianity.

It's also like with democrats and republicans. I'm a democrat, but I don't agree with abortion, just like republicans.

  • Mark Harris

IMHO, I'm a Christian, but I agree with the one rule in Buddhism that I think is good: If the teachings of other religions are good and do not conflict with my own religion, then I can be tollerant and even accept those certain principals.

  • Deana

Don`t you base your religion on what you believe in your heart,if two religions teach conflicting beliefs then it seems to me you would have to choose one that you agreed with . I wonder sometimes if people really believe from the heart the religion they follow or if they even take the time to find out what it teaches. I would have to really believe in its teachings or I would feel like a hypocrite.

  • Fluffy

I do wonder on it. Though, how could you really commit yourself to two or more very different religious teachings?
