I'm for and against. completely against a ban but for a certain amount of control. noone needs assault rifles and pistols are questionable. there should be a more in depth analysis of people who want them. all they do is a 1 minute background check. i don't think it should be as easy to get a gun as it is. it should at least take more time. but why should people who hunt be deprived of their pastime? besides, it states in the constitution that we have "the right to bear arms". |

While I in no way ever see owning or using a gun in my future, I know we will never be able to ban them and keep them out of our communities. It should however be much more difficult to get a fire arm and those who are caught with illegal firearms or committing crimes using a gun, should be dealt with a lot more stringently. A weapon used in self defense is one thing, a weapon used with malicious intent is another. |

I think they should be banned, yes Bob you've got a very valid point by saying that people who really want to kill, will find other methods to kill, but whats so wrong with making people work a little harder to kill? Without guns there could be no drive-bys, no accidental shootings, and would show the public that a sincere effort to cut down on violence and crime is being made. |

Just out of curiosity do you know about the first bootleggers? Those people that illegally smuggled alcohol into cities so people could drink? That was just a harmless substance in a bottle. But now those bootleggers are going to be arming criminals with more than just some substance of choice. They are going to be supplying a weapon that is unrivaled by anything other than another gun. So if we do ban guns to the law abiding citizens, you can kiss cleaner streets goodbye and welcome back organized crime with open arms. |

Ban guns and watch the Black Market bloom. Also it would create a breed of more intelligent criminals. In Australia our laws are pretty tight, we can't even own antique guns. They all had to be handed in and destroyed along with several hundred years of history. Kind of sad, hey? |

Guns are there to kill and it would make it much more difficult TO kill if they were banned, but obviously the government don't care and let the for overrule the against. Plus people will smuggle them in and sell them on the streets like said before, so really you can't escape it. No matter what there will be death, but banning guns could either make things better or things worse, like robbers attacking women and them having no secure defense if they were to have previously owned a gun. |

I think it should be as difficult as possible to kill another human being, and guns make it very easy. |

I`m not for banning them completely, but I think there should definately be more control over who can own one ,I don`t think a person that has a history of mental illness like the one who just gunned down 32 college kids should be able to walk in to a shop and walk out with a gun, all in the same day.Maybe they would get one illegally anyway but I think the government has the obligation to at least try to insure the safety of innocent people. |

I am against total gun control. I mean there has to be regulations and rules surrounding the conditions and situations in which a gun can be used and owned. Not everyone should own a gun. There are some major issues with different types of guns also. The US was founded on the basis of freedom to speak, do, and live happily. The right to own a gun is a major part of our freedom here. To each his own and if you do wrong with a gun then your rights should be taken away. If you are an upstanding citizen then sure by all means, buy all the guns you want and shoot them all day, just don't point them at me. |

The USA might have been founded on the right to bear arms, but that was a long time ago, and things have changed since then, dramatically, it's a pity the Goverment and the general population haven't evolved their ideas and caught up with what makes sense.# |

There are about three hundred million people in the United States, I think. There are only a few thousand who don't own a gun. |

Guns are okay I guess for defence, but I think there should be tighter regulations when getting approved for one. |

The right to bear arm! You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead fingers! I am against gun control for the simple fact, that the people out there that have no reguard to the law, are not going to care if it is illegal, and they will be the ones that think they hold all the power. i don't believe that guns kill people, people kill people. But I do believe that you never point a loaded or an unloaded gun at anyone unless yo uintend to use it, and guns should be keept in a locked gun closet so kids can't get acess to them. A gun so only be a method to protect ourself, our homes, and our families, and perjaps to hunt for food, but other than that I can sse no point in owning one. |

I read through some more of these and it seems as if people are trying to create a Utopian society. do guns make it easier to kill people? yes. but if you ban them will something replace it? yes. 'need' (for lack of a better word) is the father of most inventions. if people couldn't get a hold of guns (which they will be able to even with a ban) they would find something else that may be even worse. i would personally rather live a free life with risk. that's just me though "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin |

I don't want the people to be able to buy guns. I don't think the police should use guns either. The British way. Crime and gang violence isn't less for them either (not really), but there are less friendly fire and cases with cops shooting civilians due to this (Unfortunately corrupt cops are everywhere, but that's not what I'm really talking about, I'm not anti-cop, at all). There are lots of other methods cops could use without resorting to firearms. |

I think theres a big difference between controlling and banning . Everyday citizens with no history of violence or mental illness should have the freedom to buy guns for sport or hunting, they have proven themselves responsible but background checks and waiting periods ,I think are a sensible thing . |

Let me tell you about Guntown USA. It is Kennesaw Ga. right here in my homestate. I am sure the majority of you will agree that Atlanta has an unbelievably high crime rate. Well, Kennesaw is only a little north of there and many of the people that live there work in Atl. Point being, Kennesaw adopted a mandantory gun ownership for the heads of household. This was in response to a handgun ban in Illinois. At first it was expected that the little town of Kennesaw would be like the Wild West having shootouts to settle disputes. The town has proved this not to be true. The crime rate has significantly dropped. Yet, in Illinois the town that had a handgun ban crime rate significantly rose an exceptional amount. If the criminals know that where they are going to commit a crime they may encounter a gun, they may have second thoughts. |
