Faith

"now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see"
    Hebrews 11:1

...at my school there was this huge argument on faith vs logic. My case was that faith always beats logic because faith is illogical. true faith is putting your trust and essentially your life into something that you are uncertain of. according to logic the results of that aren't good. see logic cannot prove faith, faith baffles logic, it confuses it.

my advice, if you want to learn more about faith, read Hebrews 11, that whole chapter is amazing.

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
    -Stephen Roberts

Which simplified, means: You disbelieve in other gods for the reason I disbelieve in your god(s).

I have no reason to believe. i think that its all just a myth, so yes, you can call me an atheist. as for the proof, the Bible? its an extremely old book written by men. and i dont know about you, but i have had enough bad experiences with men to have good cause not to believe in anything they say.

  • Marianna Lyenne

I dont recall anybody saying people who have faith are stupid, just that there is no reason for themselves to have it. and very few people would want to have a face to face debate with someone they met online...

I think i "believe" in God and a higher power or
whatever because i honestly do want to believe
that there is something better for people
    after they die
and that there is someone watching over

    i dont really know actually.

"I reciently watched this show called the lost tomb of Jesus Christ. it was all about this tomb and if what they really found was Jesus' bones and his family. it also said Jesus had siblings and that Jesus body was taken to a secret family buriel tomb. so what does that mean, that jesus' body was'nt resurected, but taken by family?"

never believe what they tell you on TV anymore. Most of what are on shows like this are just based on theories, and they only give you like half of the proof needed to say thats its fact. the only reason they play them because they're huge ratings-boosters.

Isn't religion based on theories too?

Im not trying to question yours - Just saying...

  • the song writer

    Not really.
    more like beliefs
    and some laws and whatnot

  • Mo

Yes, but beliefs based on a theory?

  • the song writer

Well, no one theorized that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the grave three days after. He was a real guy, he did get crucified and he did rise from the dead (or so we believe.)

this is why thats not a theory,
his friends and a lot of other people "witnessed" JC being alive, so Jesus Christ resurrected and people were there to see him alive as eye-"witnesses" and they spread the good news (JC rising from the dead) which is why we call that witnessing because we have experienced the awesomeness of the resurrection.

so i wouldn't call it theory, more like evidence or eye-"witness" accounts.

  • Mo

Yeah I believe that part too - I was more referring to "religion" tho - see I believe religion and God to be two different things - Religion is more based on theories.

  • the song writer

Ohhhh you're just talking about flat out religion.
I'm sorry, if I would of known I wouldn't have had to any work.

    my apologies.

a religion, essentially is a system of beliefs, rules, life styles and/or supernatural events with laws, regulations and statements backing up those. so I guess religion could be a bunch of theories, on a technicality.

  • Michael D Nalley

Theories in my opinion are based on speculation, yet that is not to say that speculation cannot lead us to truth or facts. Speculation has also brought many to error. Spirituality is most effective when it is based on personal experience. If I seek healing in a secular institution I may be healed or I may die depending on my personal situation

I have speculated on my personal genealogy and found things written about my ancestors that are contradictions. Many things presented as fact are mere speculation.

My favorite example is my grandfather. My grandfather is in fact buried in a monastery.
On his tombstone is inscribed, Father Bernard Nalley. The library in the county listed the burials in that cemetery. The person that compiled the information from what is written in stone, obviously decided to interpret Father Bernard Nalley as indicating he was a priest, so he printed next to his name [priest] I have not found one piece of evidence to prove that my grandfather was a priest I can only imagine that whoever had the marker placed on his grave wanted to show his relationship to them.

The relationship to God or Higher Power is much more powerful when it is personal, and not based on objective speculation.

    I have never been suspended
If I am, in fact, preaching I would prefer to preach faith, hope, and love.

For me it is easier to justify faith hope and love as the antithesis of doubt, despair, and hate

'You also say atheist argue out of hate?'

The problem with editing a quote is that by changing one word you change the entire meaning
    'antithesis
    1. opposition; contrast: the antithesis of right and wrong.
    2. the direct opposite (usually fol. by of or to): Her behavior was the very antithesis of cowardly.
    3. Rhetoric. a. the placing of a sentence or one of its parts against another to which it is opposed to form a balanced contrast of ideas, as in "Give me liberty or give me death."

"Atheist a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings"

If I hated atheist wouldn't it be more reasonable to keep a secret from them what I believe leads to good?

"I could. I could tell you 1+1=2 and you would argue 1+1=3 because God says so. I am not afraid of being wrong...are you?"

Saying God said what God did not., does not make you appear any more intelligent, it just makes you look stupid, but you are not afraid of that are you?

DarkC - I like the way you always stick up for God and faith from your personal perspective but you dont do it in an offensive and "Im right and you're wrong" way. Its refreshing.

I dont think I have any more omph in me to carry on yet another debate on religion... is there any other topic we can talk about other than religion, abortion, etc?

Heh thanks, we have that kind of relationship. personal.
and God shouldn't be offensive, he's too cool for that.

    I'm living proof.

a while ago, i was suicidal, I was going to kill myself because I was so alone. But God picked me up. When I was lonely, he comforted me. When I fallen, he lifted me up.

If it wasn't for God I wouldn't be alive right now.

I have been in his presence. I have felt his healing touch, I frikin spoken to the dude. I don't need facts, I know him already. This is the way it should be, finding out for yourself, not leaning upon facts.

  • the song writer

No, i asked for help. it was given to me. I have friends who didn't even ask for God's help and they received his healing touch. a good friend of mine was moments away from killing himself, he had the knife in his hand and the note on his desk but God just took over and changed his life. and sometimes people just refuse to believe that he's there and thats why they don't recognize him trying to help or sometimes its just not in his will.

seriously, there's is no doubt in my mind he exists, I know him like if he was my real father.

People claim to have been abducted by UFO's because either they want attention or theyre just trying to put some freak event into a secular theory.

I believe in God because I know he exists, and i tell everyone about his greatness because i want you to experience it for yourself.

    Literally.

I've see athiests become christians. One of my childhood friends went form satanist to christian.

I'm sure there has been christians all of the world that have taken their lives. God gave us the freedom of choice, if we choose to disobey him than so be it.

Darkchristian-I know its an oxymoron, but let me explain. I live the Christian life and i follow my lord and savior Jesus Christ but I do not look like it. Im constantly wearing black, I listen to heavy metal and i have hippie hair (and eventually I'll have piercings and tats, too.) by no means do look like a typical christian.

and i said more than "people who claim to abducted by UFO's want attention", i also said that they do it to try to put together a freak even into a secular theory.

if God wasn't real, and people believed in him, they'd believe in him because he sounds like an amazing God. he's merciful, he's loving, he's protecting. he's like the perfect dad.

  • the song writer

I just said I've seen both convert
I've guided an athiest to the light myself. she was a cutter, and she was one of those "if God exists, than why am I suffering?" people. I just told her about how cool God is and about my story, and we prayed and I continued to pray for her daily and she eventually got better.
anyway we've already heard that argument about the reasons God's awesome being similar to other figures.

That doesn't do any good against true faith. Seeing isn't believing, experiencing is. I have experienced the awesomeness of God, I don't need anything else to prove he exists. and if others truly accept that He can do the same for them, they probably will change.

Lamb of God's actually a decent band. they just have a different view.
I do listen to a lot of christian heavy metal though, which might sound a bit contradictory but its possible for bands to have christian lyrics and still be hardcore.

I agree with people liking you for hating God, but only certain people.

but the bands who can write lyrics not directly worshiping God but still doing that very same thing, thats where its at.
