Tell us your acne secrets

Tell us about what you do or did about your acne?

I've had acne since I was ten and even though you can't tell in my picture I still have it and I have terrable skin for multiple reasons....That's why I put up a picture of me up because I usually always look better in pictures and it makes me feel good to be pretty. :)

A list of things I do to help with acne:

    1. Natural mineral makeup. Bare Minerals is what I use and is what I'm wearing in the picture. It's great stuff girls and any guys too!

    2. Look stuff up on the internet like old secrets and acne remedies. You'll find a lot of great stuff to try! No really!

    3. Take multivitamins. One of the main reasons people get acne is a result of a vitamin deficancy.

    4. Get a dermatologist. They may not know everything about your skin but you can at least get some good pills to take to help control your face.

    5. Wash your bed sheets and pillow case frequently. When you lay your head down your face obsorbs oil and when you put your head back down on it you just pick up allll of that oil again.

    6. Try different things. It's ok to be frustrated with things that aren't working. Stress creates acne. Be happy and just experiment with different things.

    7. Eat healthy!!!! Food is good for you! Look up natural food cures or anything with food and acne and it will explain the rest.

    8. Dry skin is unhealthy skin. Make sure that if you ever use things to dry out your acne to be carful and know that it could worsen it. Dry skin is irrated skin and irrated skin can cause more redness which is horrible!

    9. Everyone knows this one....Wash your face with things that cleanse!

    10. Anything that's good for your skin should be good for your face. Aloe, tree leaf oil, any soothing thing for colds that you put on your throat is good too. If you put a bunch of things like this on your face and then wait for a few mins (it should take you a while to put it alllll on anyways) and then wash it off. Your face should feel great afterwards.

    11. Warm water opens pores. Cold water closes pores. That's all you need to know here. ^_^ *NOTE: Some have heard differently but for me most things say wash with warm water so I'm stickin with that!*

    12. Picking or touching your face a lot isn't good. If you ever pick at your face make sure your hands are germ free (germ killer kicks butt and I even use it on my face) and I would only recomend doing this if you're just getting at one of those nasty white things. :p

    13. Dead skin. Get rid of it! Exfoiliate. :) NOT too often with harsh exfoiliators though. Gental onces can be every day but very harsh sand papery ones should only be done about 3 times a week.

    14. Don't have your hair in your face all of the time! Oil in hair is healthy but it will tranfer to your face which is bad!

    15. You tell me. :) ....Because I can't think of anything else at the moment.

If you don't believe I have acne go here. :p

I just wash my face! :)

I'm lucky...but I do tend to have a few bits of acne on my T-zone. Those end up leaving lil scars with annoy me :( But I use scar fading cream which takes care of that. Uhmm...After I wash my face I rub a cotton ball with alcohol on it over my face to remove any excess oil and makeup. I heard that it makes your skin produce more oil by drying it out..But that doesn't happen to me. That is all! :)

And the whole open and closing of pores isn't true. Your pores aren't muscles so they do not open or close. But you want to use cold water, or ice down your face. That helps with the inflammation, and tightens the skin so that medication like Benzoyl Peroxide can be more effective.

At least that's what I've read.

Really? I've read the opostie. Hmm...Well I'll put a little comment next to that tip.

I've read both aswell. But it's whatever works for you! I still follow the hot - wash - cold regiment! HaHa. A contradiction to what I stated... :) hehe.

I think as long as soap or a special kind of face wash comes in contact with your face, then you're good to go =]

^ That's really not all...at all. I'm a huge germaphobe. I wash my face probably 10 times a day and waste all of my money on these acne products, but still...there is never a day that I don't have ONE pimple. There is always at least f'ing one. Sorry. I will find the solution soon though. I will find it and I will tell the world.

"And the whole open and closing of pores isn't true. Your pores aren't muscles so they do not open or close. But you want to use cold water, or ice down your face. That helps with the inflammation, and tightens the skin..."

    ^ Didn't you just...basically...contradict yourself?

Hey, thread poster: Great advice. I'm taking some of it.

Yeah it's really not as simple as washing your face. If that's all you guys have to do and your skin is good then you guys just are lucky with good skin. Probably good genetics and perhaps your oil is basically under control. I do all kinds of stuff but I still have acne and I fear how long it will take to get rid of it. I've had it since I was ten and the ages between 10-16 is when boys are suposed to get all Ooo pretty to girls and I never got enough of that when I was younger because I had crooked teeth and glasses. Grrr......And I was always very shy. I still am so splah. Luckily I have my Kip though. ^_^

Uhm.. When I see a pimple coming..
I put noxema (sp) on it..
then like ten minutes later wash it off..
    then I wash my face.

Do that a few times a day, and I'm good.
No pimples.. Watch I just jinxed myself.

    Pro-Active works amazingly.

^ You have a nice profile. And, I mean...your face, not the other kind.

I used to use Pro-Active, but it never really worked for me...maybe because I didn't have a routine. Ha, just sort of used bits and pieces whenever I had time.

I looove pro-activ. But I use neutrogena because it is easier lol I heard that you're supposed to wash your face with lukewarm water because cold water might not get all the germs and stuff out but hot water might burn.

  • TinyDancer46

    Ohh, thanks! haha.

^^Yeah, that's what I do sometimes too. It's hard to do it every single morning and night... But when I stick to it, I love it.

I used something that was supose to be better than proactive but it didn't work. A lot of guys I know that used proactive once said that it doesn't work on people that have acne mainly because of genetics. Which would make sense because of my dad having bad skin and all.

I ahrdly have any acne. Maybe one or two pimples now and then, but I use this face wash almost every day so that probably helps... but my two best friends (twins) have horrible acne, and they use about 15 different things for it... idk.

Haha seriously i have extremely oily(sp?) skin naturally... i broke out bad in my junior high years but yeah all i did was wash my face and i have almost perfectly clear skin... also when i borke out bad i jsut started washing my face like umm 10 times in one shower o.o lol but yeah i seriously think anyone can wash it away you do not need expensive stuff... jsut dont eat alot of junk food eat healthy foods junk food causes acne... if you do eat alot of junk food or a decent amount you should cut down on it until you get control of your acne... also anything thats has any kind of oil or anything that can clog pores you shouldnt use... make-up i do not know if that helps create acne but make up is jsut stupid to wear = p unless you wanna be barbie... but i think girls are more attractive without make up anywho yeah so wash your face more times in the shower should help though.. and i mean scrub o.o not so abd your whole face is red but you should still like do a good scrub with a cloth

Yeah I do all the stuff you do and I still have it. It just doesn't go away. I have a dermatologist but nothing's working yet. It depends on what makeup you use. I use makeup that is made purely of minerals so it's actually a treatment for skin. I'm wearing it in my picture and I don't think it looks like I'm wearing any so I don't think I look like Barbie. If you want to see me without it go to that link I have at the very begining at the end of my first post. I use a lot of stuff on my face too. Several different cleansers and things like that. Also after I wash my face I put on about 7 things ontop of my skin. Things like lotion, aloe, this natural stuff that comes with some of the cleansers I use. That kind of stuff. I do everything I have on my list of things to help get rid of bad skin. I like healthy food so I eat a lot of that. The whole thing on junk food causing acne is argueable. A bunch of scientists believe it and a bunch don't. Either way we all agree that healthy food is good food.

Pro-activ is great...for a very short time. The side effects are worse. They say once you use it, you might break out more because your face isn't use to the product. odd is all im saying lol. I used it for months. it worked but burned the wooo hooo outta my face. and it tightened my skin. im not old i wanted to control my breakouts jeeeeez haha. i dont recommend it seriously. This thread rocks btw lol =]]

Yeah I was hoping I'd get a lot of people to respond. I usually find things on the internet about acne secrets (and they're great secrets too you guys so have to research acne remedies) so I decided that well I've learned enough about acne let's see what I can get out of other people.

This site is exreamly long and all of the ingredients are very simple. They're all natural ways to cure acne. A lot of things are repeated but you should skim around if you're serious about your skin. :)

Well what I do is at night before I go to bed I put toothpaste on my acne, but make sure it is dry before you go to sleep. Other wise you will have it all over your pillows. Oh, and it's best if you use crest.

I've never understood how to pop one. I've never been able to do it. Now I don't want to because I don't want my face to ever scar and I know that it will agrivate my skin even more.
