Abide.

by Poet on the Piano   Aug 29, 2014

We hope for what we can never guarantee,
seeking solace in the little springs
of life bubbling around us-
when emotions surge like tsunamis of
a misdirected heart and as much as we
may prepare, we often can't welcome the
consequences into our overwhelmed eyes.

For the waters outrun our ability to use
self-motivated force to lead life.

This air circulating is more aware
than we realize, knowing what we have
missed in previous breaths,
compensating for all the banished time
by instilling the present into our thoughts.

Our minds are fragile, never giving us
permanence, a flock of birds without a voice,
lingering on a dusty windowstill that still
grieves yesterday's memories of a much
simpler struggle, a less painful goodbye.

So, we must fly on, ahead, toward
beginnings and not chase storms in
order to invite and revist their past destruction.

We may remember and gather again the shards
from broken homes; we may speak to winds and try
to hold them to us for answers;
we may stand on a cliff's edge to test the will
of the ocean.

But, we must not fade, when thoguhts
drown our clarity.

We must, stay here.

Wrote this in about fifteen minutes in my Ethics class as I got there early and I guess was feeling a bit inspired.
Also listened to Coldplay's "O" from their new album "Ghost Stories".
