Homilies.

by Poet on the Piano   Apr 12, 2015

"We sometimes think God could
never forgive us...
but he does, no matter what.
He brings us back to life."

Father's word shook my heart
and I wanted to hold myself
like a beaten child who keeps
herself from light.

I saw you staring at me from
across the choir loft.
Silences scream. I knew you
were remembering the Friday
I called you, confessing that
I feel like an unforgivable
soul.

I took your breath away with
sadness;
you said, "that's not true.
God has and will always
forgive you, I promise."

Why is it so easy to talk to
God, and you, yet doubt
so much?

I am Thomas - knowing
you have risen for me but
wanting to see the evidence,
the tangible evidence of a

selfless love.

*The Father here is referring to the Catholic priest of my parish. A homily (or sermon) is Father's reflection on the Gospel.

*Thomas is in reference to Doubting Thomas, the Disciple who asked to see Jesus' wounds in order to believe he had risen.
