Scourge of Life

by Bill Turner   Oct 21, 2008

Ruthless shadows creeping in the night
Fingers reaching out towards lost souls
Dragging them quickly down the rabbit hole
Spiraling out of control, ever down the dark
Macabre scenes played out in the park

Craving hearts longing for the eternal deal
A sudden rush of power and sexual scent
Essence heaved upon the nearby bed
Stinging needles buried in the river Styx
As Alice takes just one more of the pricks

Island of savaged souls screaming in the night
Dead silence drawing them ever in
As another life is lost in the eternal cage
One more soul to feed the confounded beast
Taking with it families and friends to say the least

Traps and trials hidden everywhere
Children joining the darkened fray
Lost, forever lost, unable to change
As the scourge of the soul comes for you
Do not try it, not once, for if you do...

    Bill,
I so enjoyed the word play and thought this was very reminscent of something that we would hear from Pink Floyd. I love the whole Alice in Wonderland type theme you implied and the trickery and imagery. Absolutely awesome job bringing this to the table.

    Great Job

This is awesome. Reminded me novel of Dean Koontz... :)

Loved the experience, it was like watching a 3D movie, all alone in hall.

Reading couple of stanzas for few minutes and the effect stays thereafter, very few poems makes me feel this way. Loved it.

all the best and take care

You did an awesome job on this piece. The imagery is fantastic. This just draws the reader right into the darkness. Spine Chilling.

Great ending, Bill. Such a dark poem you've written, so fitting for Halloween though. It is then that we seem to unleash our demons for play or perhaps more... Anywho, nice writing as usual. Hope all is well...
