Hold Tightly, I Say

by Courtney   May 14, 2010

Tightly, tightly hold the sand
Don't move your fingers
Don't move your hand

Stay still, still I say
Don't let the sand go
I pray you, do not let it flow

Clench it with your fist
You must hold it tight
The time for it to leave is just not right

But why, why you ask
Why not let it go
Why may I not open my hand to let the sand show?

You say that it is slipping
That your hand is sore
Why won't I let you give back the sand to the shore?

Because away it will go
With the water it will flow
Never to return
And I will miss it so

So please hold it tightly
I beg you, I say
Hold it tightly, tightly, I pray

Your fingers clenched tighter
Yet the sand trickled out
Until through your fingers
Your hand was without

The tighter the hold
The faster it went
Back to the ocean
The sand was gone as it was meant

I'm so glad that you got something out of it! Poetry as well as any other art form is free game for interpretation.
    Thanks, again!

    I get this.
its vague enough so i can create my own meaning for it, which is cool. i don't know if i took it the way you wrote it, but my interpretation fits with how i feel right.
    nice write.
