Canvas and Oil

by Melissa   Jan 6, 2012

So full of color
our possibilities once shone like a sunny afternoon painting
bright blue skies and unceasingly still
in the golden rays of a romantic notion

I bloomed as your wildflower
carefree and reckless,
feeding on delicious poetry
and gulping the sweet concoctions of
spit and songs sputtered about my head

You were the perfect hue
of lily white intentions,
pressing your fingerprints into my petals
as though saying, I'm home
an intimate coupling between your thumb, my flesh
I started to sway
in the hypothetical hug of love
as your truth blotted its turpentine on our sun,
keeping a tight lip, because you liked the way I moved
at dusk
