On One Knee

by Daylight Lucidity   May 10, 2013

With one solemn look into your eyes,
I realize where my place has been
All the while as I searched the skies
For an answer that lies under this pen.

I've gazed out my bay window onto the piazza under moonlight
In search for life's meaning, of my reason here,
And I had yet to answer myself, for uncertainty clouded my sights
Whilst rocking slowly in my chair, coffee in hand without a care.
I've watched the trees move like children
Excitedly and happily amongst the playful breeze
But I have never before now been so willing
To fall, gracefully, upon one knee and ask you to marry me.
I've swam with the fish of rivers come and gone
Laughing as they splashed me as they reached for the sky
Some touched it, wriggling with delight in the sun
Conversing with the cardinals coasting by.
I've slept in a bed of roses
And absorbed their delicate fragrances
While I gained the beautiful ability to love someone so
As I have fallen for you, in this lovely essence.
Now, mind you, I am young, yes, and they may call me naive
But I know my love for you grows beyond the boundaries of teenage romance
And that is why I will stay on one knee
Until I find the right time to present your ring, and the right light in which it shall enhance.

Underneath your window you will find my silhouette,
The moon shining behind me as if a spotlight
Enriching my heart's love to embrace you in a future waiting to be discovered as of yet,
A ring in a black velvet box, a diamond that's flawless, glimmering in the night.
I will stay on one knee
Until you agree to marry me.

The poem was never for someone in particular. As my mother said, it is about a proposal. You don't see things like that. It is either a wedding or after the wedding. Never before. This is just my take on that unnerving, beautiful question.
