Discrimination Walks in Heels

by Everlasting   Mar 6, 2014

Like pencils locked in drawers,
one by one, remained silent.
It didn't matter,
if stories waited to be written.
It didn't matter,
if leads remained hidden.

To an office - it was "a holiday."
Coffee cups should be in the cabinets.
Papers should be left white.
Computers should be left untouched.
Chairs should be left alone.

It didn't matter - if in the corners,
if in the boulevards, discrimination
walked with mini skirts.
It didn't matter- if It walked in heels.
No, it didn't matter- If it walked
towards potholes of assassins
who stripped life out of women -
out of the women who society
denied opportunities.

it was "a holiday."

I wrote this poem a while back, its based on a dream rather a nightmare. I woke up angry after dreaming that no police officer did anything to help a woman who had no other option but to work in the oldest of the works - prostitution, just because it was a holiday.

The good thing is that the police department don't have holidays. So I'm glad it was a nightmare... or at least I hope it was just a nightmare.
