Persephone's gift

by A lonely soul   Mar 27, 2014

It is Zeus's command
as Sibyl foretells
A seed, once sown
nourished lovingly
unfailingly buds
each spring

New saplings
will sprout their
roots, dig deep
in their mothers womb
Demeter will smile
and the
Flowers will bloom, once again

Bedecked
and bejeweled with
a fragrant blossom
The earth will
once again celebrate
the arrival of
Persephone
The nine muses will dance again

Oh Hades, she is the darling
nymph of this earth
Each spring
she breathes air in
dead trees
rejuvenates
this parched land
so the Birds can sing
and the bees can hum,
once again

Try hard, but
you cannot keep
her forever in your dungeon
She was stolen in her innocence
But, as the prophecy said
after each winter, she
will resurface again,
amongst a bed of tulips

Serene challenge to the lord of the underworld to release his captive bride. Well done in both treatment of the subject matter and the flow of the verses.

There is a mystic feel and the essence of beauty simply flows. The story took me into a lovely world, a world I would like to feel peace.

Nice to read a poem from you after so long :)
