Night Changes

by Beautiful Tragedy   Mar 21, 2017

Remember that One Direction song I used to sing to you all the time;
The one that talks about how fast things can change,
But it would never change us?
I would listen to it for hours,
Singing along as I decorated and drew a beautiful winter tree for you
Because it helped symbolize one of your favorite poem.
And at the end of the day
I'd count how many footsteps it took you to get to your car.
Watching from the window;
I missed you as soon as you crossed the threshold between carpeted rug
to snowy cement,
Singing the lyrics in my head all over again
and loving you more with each passing
Second.
And I'd watch with my heart beating rapidly as you would look up
One more time before you drove away,
Meeting my eyes from a distance
And one line would run through my head.
"Even when the night changes,
it will never change
You and me."
Well;
I still listen to that song.
And that line still runs as true today as it had back then.

    Really liked the emotional recall in this one. I was just in Ikea today and heard a Taylor Swift song. It made me think of someone too. Weird how "a song can take you back".

    Also, like the juxtaposition between carpeted rug and snowy cement. The transition from warm and welcoming to harsh and unforgiving. Nice job!

      Thank you. I like the way you see that last part, but the transition between carpeted rug and snowy cement indicated something else. It was more like two different worlds. I don't know how to explain it, but I know the way I see it in my head. Lol
      Also, it is amazing what simple things can do in reminding a person of a memory, whether it's big or small, it's still significant all the same.
      And it's nice to have someone who likes Taylor swift as much as I do.
      Taylor swift all the way.

      Thanks. Music tends to do this a lot. I think some of our best memories as humans are somehow always associated with a song. Everyone has a song that reminds them of someone

    A nostalgic piece that hits home. There's nothing like music or a particular lyric to capture a period of time and bring memories flooding back - years and years later, sometimes.

    Well done on this and all the best,

    Ben
