Bitter-sweet memories

by Michael   Jun 19, 2017

Meandering along the Jurassic coast
salty air stirred echoes of nostalgia; history
awakens a romantic rendezvous;
of a sweet and soured past; malign from
envious elders

I rested upon a Limestone rock
to open my mind.
Waves rolled back years
of memories; of two innocent hearts
on a discovery; a voyage at this very place

The sea, lapped at my feet; splashing
kisses of sympathy upon me,
for these waters know of our once,
surreptitious sanctuary; a secret oasis,
where we relished our naivety
away from twisted tongues.

A pair of fledglings; learning to
take flight together; soaring skies
seeking a sense of exploration; freedom.

... but sadly,

Dark clouds rumbled; rumours,
of disgust; insulting our immature
intelligence, ruinous of our maiden voyage

...then,

you were swept away; faraway from me,
across oceans, on a feeble whim, a
fallacy; so unjust
I pined and sobbed for you, but to no avail.
leaving our journey fractured; and in limbo

However my memory of us
and the moments we shared,
was worth the selfish spite
of an older order

...so I continued revelling
in mindful meditation of you.

With,

the sun drizzling warmth; blending
with soft air; creating an ambience,
so benign.
Bringing a picture of us
in our youth; furled blossoms,
ready to unravel

Just at that moment, a caller; a feathered
crest, settled upon sandstone close
to where I was,
just the breeze between us.
I sensed she was troubled; her plume
seemingly pained
She nestled unto a tranquil; contentment;
nursing her wounded wings; resting her heart

Thoughts trickled through
me, and I wondered if,

this beautiful visitor,
had also come reminiscing; of
ruffled recollections of love passed

....maybe.

Michael, good fellow, I may not be able to give you goose bumps like some of the ladies on here, but by heaven, I'll do my best!
This is super writing indeed and one of the better pieces I've read recently.

All the very best as ever,

From your own words, the beauty of poetry is, how powerful pieces come through situations. This is a powerful write of reminiscing the past. It's splendidly worded and full of raw and honest emotions. This has somehow a sad tinge though....bittersweet as the title suggests. Another breathtaking piece from you!

Arrh, Miss M such lovely words thank you :)

A beautiful memory of younger days, and the spoils of what adults then didn't understand. Instead judgements are projected from what lies within them
