Looking down I see him
With his dimples and curls
Mocha skin and dark brown hair
And his smile that makes the world
Fade away

An innocent held within amber eyes
My love for this child bursting
From within my chest
I just want to hold him close
To protect him

It hurts me to realize
He'll grow into a man
He'll face all the things I have
Love, loss, and regret
Having to live the hand he has

For now, elmo and blocks
Are his favorite things
Getting cuddles after nap
Are something expected
And I'm going to cherish this
