One More Light We Need.

by Poet on the Piano   Nov 15, 2018

I listened to the sound of tears again,
as she entered the room and asked
what it all meant to me.

My lungs caved;
I explained how music never glorified
my darkness - it made it known,
like the heavy emotions I felt
didn’t have to be hidden in a darkroom.
I didn’t have to cry alone anymore,
carrying a mountain no one dared
to trespass.

Unless you’re suffocating,
unless you’re the one free falling
into a chasm, you won’t understand the
futility we feel when suicidal thoughts
make us crave an end,
a surface to rest on instead of existing
in
uncertainty.

But I know there's depth
to this life, I've touched it...

When others pass their light,
how dare you blame
them for not shining bright enough.
They tried their best

(we all try our best)

and I feel less alone when I have
a place I can scream,
lay everything done and
just exist

scars out, heart healing.

This darkness we balance on,
this gray matter we write about,
it doesn’t mean we’re giving up.
We're all trying to deal with
brains that want to starve us,
experiment with our will to live

and we walk on...

A really fitting ode. I love the reference in the title. This tugged on the heartstrings. Walk on with hope in your heart
