Chilean Miners

2010 Chile's mining accident

It is a transcending triumph
when all the human race unites
in the tender heart, in beneficence,
caring for the lives of those
who live far distances away, in an uncharted land.
impoverished,
unnamed, underneath and undermined,
grimed, so, invisible in the heartless dark
but
with the hearts of lion!

Men harder than the rock they mine in.
the lavas of Chile’s volcanos in their veins,
molten steel
cools down in their casts
of forbearance.

Men with the fortitude of their very assailant:
the earth!

Men
who tame mountains,
who bridle impossible feats and pains!

And now
in their wills of survival
the humanity
unites.

It takes great bravery to risk life on a daily basis to go many miles under the earth knowing how dangerous it can be but doing it anyway to feed their families. This poem pays great tribute to these people and helps raise awareness that such terrible accidents happen yet still tbey go on.. milly x

I remember this, it was all over the news in every part of the world. The job itself is a really tough one, and with this how suffocating it must’ve been.

    Beautiful dedication!!
