A Writer's Rights

by AGirlWorthFightingFor   Jan 3, 2005

A writer writes
But a producer buys
You sell your rights
We own you for life

To keep you in line
We have to tighten the chains
You're doing hard time
For the rest of your days

A writer writes
We buy whatever you have
The only reason you're alive
Is because we like it like that

But you went away
You tried to take our shows
We need your brain
Because our stuff blows

A writer writes
But we will buy
For the right price
We own your life

A writer writes
But a producer buys
Nomatterwhathappensweneedyoutorememberthisfact
Remember your contract
We...Own...You...For...Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife!!

((Originally written for fanfiction on Joss Whedon's struggles with the WB, sung by the Warner Bros, and the Warner sister.))

Ahh the ultimte irony.. the unique writer writes for herself, gets recognised and winds up as just another cog in the gears of the system.

Having said that I want to be a cog myself!
