I ache…
Longing for my next chance
To furtively escape
From harsh reality.

I cannot concentrate,
The blood rushing in my veins
Seeming louder than the
Echoes of the
Ticking of the
Clock.

Drumming my fingers
On the desk
I sneak a look
At the teacher-
No! She looks at me.
I must wait.

Fingers twitching
With longing,
My heart pounding in my breast,
I watch her
From beneath my lashes…
Please…
Oh, please…
I can’t take it any longer…

She sits down…
Please, oh, please…
And picks up her marking.
Yessss!

Giving in,
I surreptitiously reach into my bag…

And open my book.
