The Accident

by xEmmax   Oct 25, 2006

There was police tape fluttering in the breeze
Dancing brightly in the eerie silence
Heart racing, what lay beyond the path?
A car crash? An act of violence?

We trotted quickly onto the road
Wild questions ran through my head,
But as we rounded the corner my blood ran cold
Sprawled on the track, a horse lay dead

A beautiful creature below the sheet of white
Its peaceful head lay still,
With dog bites and a broken leg
The accident seemed almost unreal

The scene of horror drifted past
An owner too shocked to cry
The rangers waiting for the truck
The horse lying nearby

Away from it all we silently rode
I didnt dare look back,
The scene will always cloud my mind
And haunt that sandy track.

Hey! Hou are you? I'm so glad to see that you have written another poem. It's been too long. I love it, Emma! (No surprise there.) I like it that you used a horse instead of the stereotypical person. I don't think I could bear to look at it. I love horses. Superb write!
