Ode to the Pine Tree

by Daisy if you do   Nov 17, 2006

Ode to the Pine Tree

Proud of the earth
From whence it was born
Evergreen needles
Reaching forth

Every branch
Stretched out to reach
As if to help
Nature in need

The viscid sap
seeps to run free
Down the bark
Of the old pine tree

Golden nectar
Plugging it's wounds
Natures nurse
Needs no prune

Sheltering the earth
Protecting the source
Nourishing all
Running it's course

Pleasantly scented
Sometimes robust
Shedding it cones
During the harvest

Birds and squirrels
Their humble abode
A sapling once
Youth echoed

Ornamental design
For men every year
Festive lights beacon
To all good cheer

Essential is the fire
Just as the rain
In perseverance of
The pines domain

I meant to add that I only have one or two poems about nature. This is one Memories Of My Shadow which I wrote for some great oaks that they found so much pleasure in cutting down a few years ago in order to widen a street that was fine as it was... progress has ways of saddening the trees..

I have always enjoyed your poems and this one is no exception. I still find that the nature section of this site generates some really great poems as they are fresh and not filled with the L word which gets misused even by myself sometimes. Your pineness has left me with scents of the woods as I sit here at my work bench. thanks
