Fish in the sea

by StandStill   Feb 11, 2008

I went fishing one day
and i did see
a silvery fish
glittering for me!

i caught it and i brought it home
i kept it
just for my very own!

i loved it right,
i loved it good
i loved it like i thought i should

when i showed it to the others
all they could do
was frown
and mutter

darling, love, why can't you see?
there are plenty of other fish in the sea!

but i turned around
i spoke pure wicked
and my heart did pound

for i knew they were right
and that i was wrong
that this fish had been a terrible plight
all along

but when i turned up my nose
their opinions
they did pose

darling, love, why can't you see?
there are plenty of other fish in the sea!

i finally heard with a hardening heart
that they had been right, correct
from the very start

so i took that fish and i tossed him back
but then my heart was attacked

what if they were wrong when they begged with their plea?

what if there isn't another fish in the sea?
what if there isn't another for me?

Haha I liked this poem, comes off as very playful. I can relate to it in the sense of the fear of breaking up and being alone and then second guessing yourself when u do. Its a great all around poem, good flow. 5/5
