Resting Hearts

by Tom Swart   Mar 4, 2008

In the beginning we break free
of births binding and start our journey.
The updrafts of life catch us and like the leaves of fall
it plays with us over the course of our lives.
We drift and fly with these winds of time
then land and dance with the earth.
Each with our own rhythm and direction.

Sometimes we only rest a short period
before another current takes us aloft again
Where we laugh and kiss the sky.
Some of our journeys are long and others are short.
Those that take the shorter path have
no less meaning than those of us
who find the hands of time in our favor.
For when we stumble along lifes way,
we will find the cushion of the resting hearts
of the young that have passed before us.

Thank you dear friend for your life,
your smiles and for the breath
you now lend to those who loved and cared for you.
Your lifes breath will give birth to all the loving words
that shall speak of you during our time of remembering.
We welcome the future when we know your
Memory will come to fill our hearts again.
We will always gladly find time to trace the initials of
Your name that are etched in the soft bark
Of these loving vessels. A special place
where they shall live forever.

I found this piece not to be sad but refreshing. The friendship message exudes from it and the life lesson of come what may. The grief however does play a part but the memories of love are overwhelming. Life and death alike we have to have faith that in the end of everything that two will be rejoined.
    Breathtaking piece of work here.

The last 2 lines take my breath away and touch a spot in my heart. These lines are my favorite lines, they are woven with such emotion.

    More great lines .....
    - The updrafts of life catch us all like the leaves of fall
and play with us over the course of our lives.

    - Those that take the shorter route are
no less important than those of us
who find the hands of time in their favor.

    - This breath gives birth to all the words
that shall speak of you during this time
of grief and for many years to come when your
memory finds itself filling those hearts again.

Your title is wonderful and the entire piece is so very touching.

What a piece full of intense thoughts. Great job on the imagery.

For when we do stumble along lifes path
we find the cushion provided by the fallen hearts
of the young that have passed before us.

How many times we do stumble. Memories of those we loved help us to carry on.

The initials of your name are carved in the soft bark
of those loving vessels where they shall remain forever.

These last lines are so heartfelt. Really bring tears to the eyes. How true your words are Tom. The pain of losing a love one is sometimes unbabrable. Then as time passes our heart fills with their memories and we are able to share these with others. In doing so we let this person live on.
    Excellent!
    Take Care Cindy
