Lilith and Adam

by Emily   Mar 24, 2008

I thrive on temptation
I'd rather lust than deprive
I'll dominate you, lowly man
I'll make you crave my divine

Sacrifice to me means nothing
I'll devour all that is yours
This greed of mine will never cease
I have all I want, and I want more

I live for boasting my feats
Would you rather feel shame than pride?
I'm glad what I've done, Shame's for regret
My stories and tales, they'll never subside

All that you have, it's not fair
It would all look better on me
I envy yours, when mine is pale
In my eyes that glow ever so green.

Revenge grows so more than clarity
My hatred I cannot suppress
I'll take my wrath on you for my wrongs
Through my fear, anger, and stress

Why move when you can sleep?
I'll be a sloth, I don't fear lazy
I'll be served, not a server, Adam
Words never spoken so crazy

How dare you come with pleas desperate
Gluttony is natural, not charity
I owe you nothing, you're not welcome
This is for me, and only me.

Banish me from your garden
Your wombs will be rot after me
And Eve will fail, just as I have
My beloved apple from my beloved tree

The same dust we were created
On a scale, none is higher in air
Can you blame me for acting in sin
When you've treated me in ways so unfair?

This follows the story of Lilith left out of the bible. She was Adam's first wife, and they were created at the same time, from the same earth. Yet, she wanted to be equals, and Adam, being man, wanted her to be subordinate. She left the Garden of Eden and three angels gave her a warning to come back. Instead, she said that she would kill infants in their womb and become a terror on the planet. The angels begged her to rethink this, so she said she would not kill a baby if the mother wore a certain amulet around her neck.

You can see her as good, and a natural woman who took her spite on the wrong people in defiance.

Or you can see her as bad, someone who simply could not follow the way of God.

I quite liked that poem. it was an interesting concept. but i dont see why she had to bad simply because she didnt follow god. the old testament god was a monster to make even the most meglomaniac tyrant we have ever knowing to pale in comparison.
