School

by StandStill   Apr 3, 2008

She goes to school
learns to read and write
does her homework
nearly every night

such a good girl
she's number one
has the perfect balance
of sincerity and fun

what happens behind closed doors
the world will never see
a lost little girl so filled,
racked with agony

school supplied her with basic tools
pencils, staples, and guilt
she knows that upon simple white lies
her crumbling foundation has been built

she knows how to smile
she can be oh so cute
a little chameleon, how would you like to see her,
how best could she suit?

she makes so many promises
that she'll never keep
these broken words are hers
the world won't see when she weeps

and in a bright, quiet room
when she's all alone
she can escape for a while
to a world all her own

her wrists and her legs
are canvases for her art
upon them she scratches little things
a picture of her broken little heart

no blood will she shed because
she promised something new
but in her twisted perspective this isn't a lie
just something seen by a select few

and she goes to school
to convince the world
she isn't another one
a scratched up girl

the bell is ringing in her head
now she's rising from her seat
dear reader, i have to get to class
can't let the world see my defeat

Awww Gabby! I loved this poem! I felt like I could relate to it in so many ways!
    "her wrists and her legs
    are canvases for her art
upon them she scratches little things
a picture of her broken little heart"
This was one of my favorite stanzas btw, the first two lines really left a deep impression on me.
Your poem flowed really well, though I think that it could have flowed better with some punctuation/capitalization in parts, but it was gorgeous anyway.
