Take

by Ed or Ian Henderson   Apr 5, 2008

Take the stand for the future because this present won't be honest
There are things we need to do to set things straight.
Broken-minded saviours don't come calling alone and wary.
They knock on doors in the middle of the night,
And peer in windows decked in warmth and wealth.
They're the mindset we admire like Northern Lights:
A magic born in suspicion, disorder and heavenly discontent.

Take the master to task for the disaster that comes after,
We've gazed too long into a sun that is not hard on the eyes.
And none of the words you could suggest are appropriate are.
The fuels are beaten into skulls that smokescreen real sentences.
The sweetness of lifelong liquor leaves us dancing, waiting for graves.
Be cautious, you children.
Be cautious, and alarmed.

Take me for the gentleman you said you suspected I am,
Because the journey I'll show you I won't come along.
I'll watch your comely shape drape ages across your shoulders
While the meaning is lost in the gains that we'll crave.
This cast of shadows on my mind is set in stone,
And I won't see paradise because my neck won't turn
Like the owl that soared in darkness into eternity.

Take, for instance, that life's not just for living,
That maybe we're forgiving when we should be livid.
Hold tight while the world-wind spreads like wildfire.
Watch with me as reality becomes a house of cards,
And treachery is an art the heart beckons heedfully.
There is a song that the universe sings.
We’re too deaf to know our own music.
