You Forgot Something

by Lisa A Kessler   Apr 21, 2008

Memories-I've found are funny things.
They seem to show up in all your dreams.
I remember wishing upon a star-and "you" came true.
Now that you're gone-I'm not sure what to do.
Because when you said good-bye-you left some things
behind.
Some of them are tangible, but others are nestled in
my mind.
The first thing I noticed was your toothbrush in the
holder,
A pair of socks, a video, and a couple of work folders.
But, you also left your scent, which lingers in the
covers.
The ones we used to snuggle in, back when we were
lovers.
And in my bed-where you made everything-seem so
right.
There now is an empty spot that I keep reaching for
each night.
All the materials items, I can wash, forget, or throw
away.
But the memories just don't seem to want to want to
stray.
I'm trying to forget it all-and make a brand new start.
If only I could fill this vacant spot in my heart.
You see I really miss you and hunger for your touch.
Why did I allow myself to want you so much?
Getting over you would have been faster and a lot
less of my time spent,
If you had simply taken your memories-with you-when
you went!
