Never the Same

by Lu   Apr 27, 2008

Waves crashed upon our lives
and swept your love away
broken were all the promises
you vowed to me each day

You opened the gates of betrayal
walked away, leaving me behind
searching for the happiness
you thought you were sure to find

The man I loved with all my heart
broke the dreams we held so dear
walking out the door that day
without shedding a single tear

Trying to walk back into my life
recreate the dreams we once shared
begging for another chance
finding my heart no longer cared

Wasn't long before you realized
can't pour raindrops back into a cloud
gone were the days of love and trust
and the family you held so proud

Time may mend this broken heart
but our love will never be the same
a man who once walked so proud
now holds his head in shame

Shattered my heart, killed my dreams
when you chose to walk out that door
losing trust and changing my feelings
I can't love you the same anymore

I just want to be the one you see
when you close your eyes to sleep
twisting and turning in your empty bed
now drowning in the tears ... you weep

The heart has now finally spoken ...

What a very sad and heart breaking poem. The agony cries from your words.

    Waves crashed upon our lives
    and swept your love away
    broken were all the promises
you vowed to me each day

Promises made by two loves. Thought to last forever. How sad when the trust is broken.

    Wasn't long before you realized
can't pour raindrops back into a cloud
gone were the days of love and trust
and the family you held so proud

This stanza really tugged the heart strings. NO you can never take back what you broke in the first place. There is no magic fix.

Time may mend this broken heart
but our love will never be the same
a man who once walked so proud
now holds his head in shame

This I think is the saddest of all the stanzas. Realizing that what you wanted all along was right under your nose. That you threw it away for what??

The heart has now finally spoken ...

Great ending Luanne...the heart does have the final say.
    Excellent job!

To walk away without shedding a tear...oh God that must have killed you, my dear girl.

It's a beautiful sad poem, Luanne. The rhyme and the choice of words are great. But the story is very sad. A heart once broken cannot be made whole, not like it used to be....

    Much love,
