Overtaken

by Michelle Fuller   May 11, 2008

You're so overtaken
By the things that you do
I'm starting to realize
You're not the real you

I miss who you used to be
All the jokes we would share
Now drugs have corrupted
The fact that you care

Why'd you take that hit?
Did you think about it at all?
That your daughter would see it
And that she'd take the fall?

Her daddy,her hero
Has faded away
You sit and smoke more
As I sit and pray

I pray you will stop
And notice that I understand
You can't lie about it anymore
Look at who I am

You're watching me grow
And the time's passing by
but you're missing it all
You're overtaken,too high.

I like this poem a lot, so sad how drugs affects families. My favourite stanza was

I miss who you used to be
All the jokes we would share
    Now drugs have corrupted
    The fact that you care

    So sad. 5/5
