Dad

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   Jun 2, 2008

Dad
As I attempt to emulate and imitate my visions of the man
An unsuccessful parody is how my youth began
It took me years to get the measure of the man
But because of him I've become the person that I am

A quiet man of thoughtful resolve
Into my youthful hero he did evolve
A man of indeterminate strength to my youthful mind
A more practical and knowledgeable man you'd be hard pressed to find

He was never well schooled, but always well spoken
A resourceful man by anyones token
A good provider, you always cared for my mom
A problem solver when things went wrong

How I regret some of the actions of my youth
But dad I never meant to hurt you, and that's the truth
To your eternal credit you never cast me aside
And I hope that at least by now, you can look at me with pride

Now you're in the winter of your life
You're growing older together with your wife
So now it's our turn to take care of you and mom
What a pleasure it's been to call you dad, and know where I've come from
