Truth: A Pounding Heart

by Mary   Jun 2, 2008

The water is freezing cold
Yet so warm
With familiarity
The cruel kindness
Of the water
Is so inviting to me
The harsh, friendly smell
Of the chlorine
Burns my nose
I donât dare get out
The air
Burns my freezing skin
So I swim
Continuous laps
Around the pool
My heart starts to race
Faster, harder
With every stroke
I can feel that
Quiet loud thump
In my ears
My body is tired
It wants to quit
Refuses to do more
Doesnât matter
Itâs time to go
Same as every night
Tomorrow we will do
The same routine
We do the same one each time
Just to have the feel
Of that
Soft pounding heart
