Long term

by May   Jun 7, 2008

You're asleep on our date
and who can blame you?
the news is hardly exciting
at this late hour.
it's only on to keep my parents away.
i look closer
at your tired face
wondering how you can be so perfect,
even when you're dreaming.
i take in dark spots under your eyes,
and move closer
holding you protectively
away from the world
and hurt and pain.
away from separation,
if only for a moment
