Love (Revised)

by Michael Mantione   Jun 13, 2008

I love you,
I love you too,
Nothing else to do
By the time the bottles empty will be through

Swallow the magic pills
And soon the emptiness fills
Laugh lightly as it all takes effect,
No need to be politically correct

Love,

Reality!

We are born sinners
No, I didn't mispronounce winners
Our kind of love is taboo
The kind where only misery can ensue

Love,

Faith!

We are souls dammed for all eternity,
This is the case in our modernity,
With rights vs religion there is only pushing and shoving
Young lovers condemned for loving
Tainted youths must be purified and exorcised,
Or burn for all for all time, what? Don't act surprised

Love,

Truth!

We've reached worst case scenario, no not murdered
Love has been slandered,
I know I'm not heaven sent but,
Charged with the crime of a sexual deviant,

Love,

Wake up!

In our own homes its WWIII,
Locked behind closed doors,
No one knows or wants to know,
Home is where it hurts the most,
Rejection, Ejection, and being disowned,
Condescending words passed from ear to ear,
Shame fills the heart where warmth once resided,
Fear rules all when violence reigns supreme,

Love,

Question!

In the end is it all worth it?
Real love,
Can it endure?
