Real

by Jake Mayo   Jun 19, 2008

The sun shines down
Full of grace
The birds sing
Still he hides his face
Full of shame
He breaks inside
Hope's the last thing
On his mind
His fears swell up
In his chest
Almost tearing the binding
Around his breasts
"He's a she"
Words that kill
And "Try as he might,
He never will"
Giving up
Isn't hard to do
When your body
Is split in two
The puzzle
Makes him want to quit
Because those pieces
Just don't fit
It's like the ground
Has turned to sand
He wants to sink
He cannot stand
Scrapes his knees
As he falls
Damns the world
Damns them all
He feels like
The joke's on him
Because a girl
Must share his skin
Whispers pass
They cut and hurt
And kick his face down
In the dirt
The pain's so great
But he wipes his eyes
Because he knows
That boys don't cry
So he stands tall
Like nothing's wrong
And gets by
With his little song:

"Don't give up, boy
Life is Hell
But it'll get better
You know it will
You'll show the world
How wrong they are
With every
Operation scar
Don't listen to them
They don't see
What you go through
Just to be
Don't hide away
Don't hide your voice
Cause one day
You'll be a real boy."
