As The World Goes By

by David ODonnell   Jun 24, 2008

Thoughts of peace run through my mind
And all this time Ive been so blind
How beautiful the world could be
As it turns but with out me

I haven't lived or learnt enough
Or given in when it got tough
But I came close to cross the line
To end it early but not on time

My last thought would be to dream
Before I float along the stream
Or climb a bridge and learn to fly
To take the highway before I cry

Haven't yet quite picked my fate
Took too much time and now its late
In the void I've spent my time
Hating life through verse and rhyme

Further thoughts woulds change my mind
Leave me hopeless and confined
Its not too late to say goodbye
Watching as the world goes by

Thoughts of peace run through my mind
And all this time Ive been so blind
How beautiful the world could be
As it turns but with out me

Your first stanza was strong. Your emotion was clearly shown and the flow of it was very well wrote as well. I've felt this way before. Its as if your staring out a window looking out at the world seeing how beautiful it COULD be and how it CAN be but no one can see you. Like one of those windows that you see in police stations with the mirrors. People can look inside and see themselves but they never see you. They just look through you. I understand that for a fact. People know your there, they just choose not to see you, its not that your invisible its the how man is.

"I haven't lived or learnt enough
Or given in when it got tough
But I came close to cross the line
To end it early but not on time"

This reminds me of suicide. Ending everything away for some reason that seems somewhat important. But if you take a few years then look back the reason that was so important before seems meaningless. I know how that feels trust me I've been there. I guess its just growing up.

"My last thought would be to dream
Before I float along the stream
Or climb a bridge and learn to fly
To take the highway before I cry"

We all have our last wishes thats a fact, just remember to take them before something happens. Life is short. always do what you want to do don't wait for it. and dont say you would do it on a later date all we have is NOW. The past is done and whatever the future holds is what the future holds worry about it when the time comes.

"Haven't yet quite picked my fate
Took too much time and now its late
In the void I've spent my time
Hating life through verse and rhyme"

As I said in the earlier comment about time and now and blah blah blah.
Thats what us poets do, express ourselves through poetry or "verse and rhyme" on how we look at life, if we hate it or not. its how we do it. and we normally almost always come up with great poetry just like your doing in this poem .

"Further thoughts woulds change my mind
    Leave me hopeless and confined
Its not too late to say goodbye
Watching as the world goes by "

Looking out the window on life is all we can do. observe as walkers walk by and do what we do. this was a good poem I can truly relate to this and I'm sure many others can relate to this as well. good job with this keep it up good poem 5/5

Confusion, uncertainties, frustrations, complexes are issues we all as humans have to deal with.......its painfully sad.......and yet life still goes on.........

My last thought would be to dream
Before I float along the stream
Or climb a bridge and learn to fly
To take the highway before I cry

This stanza stands out.............is this hope that flickers? Dream to float or maybe climb that bridge and fly........very nice.
