By the Riverside

Im staring out the window on this long train, im going somewhere far where the world is new. The sun is setting, soon ill be the only one awake. I know im weary but at a time like this sleep would never come. My eyes are focused but my mind is astray, all I have left of you is this necklace in my hand. As I watch the day fade and night come around, I remember it's almost the time we lay by the riverside and talk till the nights nearly over. Going back I remember how I held you tight as time flew by and I knew this might be the end. My heart screamed no, my arms wouldn't let go, but I knew someday Id have to. Silently I prayed, knew if you could you would stay, but our wheel of life has turned us another way. So please, just let this night carry on, I need this moment to last forever, you lying here with me. I look you in the eyes; your beautiful eyes, it takes all I have to break my gaze. So resentfully, I could keep you in my sight forever and never need to see another thing. I tell you if I could lie here with just you one night of the year, Id still love you the same. Thankfully God blessed me, with a dream come true, my life was far from perfect until I found you. This is how my life should play out. You and me, lying here together until our last hour, loving you until I take my last breath, you my foundation, my fortress, my light shining when the clouds are gray, until the end of this world. Now grays the only color of my sky. The sun was taken and I'm left in the cold. A new world without you, a world id rather die than live in. And now im on this train, going to somewhere where the world is new, but the sun still has no chance to shine. Every time I hear your name ill turn my head and think just maybe, you've come back for me. But I know an ocean separates us, a thousand miles to one is a true journey to endure. But if you called my name and told me to come back to you, believe id turn this train around and make a boat out of twigs, sail this water and find you again. Anything, my life, id give to hold you again. This land can be conquered by a man with true determination. Maybe im not yet a man, but the resolve is real. Combined with true love, a man could be unstoppable. Unscathed by lifes struggle and adversity. It can carry a man to the clouds if the power is sincere. A giant living amongst dwarves and learning to love them the same is just. But a soldier giving his life for his partner is something to honor in the highest regard. This kind of love is uncommon, but it hasn't vanished. Love is in every sacrifice, in every life lost for another, in all we call grace living in this world. Without it, what would we be? A gloomy, hopeless race stricken with war and misery. Love is our stronghold, without it we would surely fall. Love is what I call you. So believe in this words im writing on this page, one day the sky will clear, one day you'll take my hand and we will climb a mountain with our lives. The clouds will never rain again. But for now, I can only dream of you. Only dream of that one last night, where I told you, id always love you. Laying by the riverside, I looked you in the eyes, your beautiful eyes, and told you a world without you wouldn't be a world at all. You took my hand and said you'd never leave me. Baby I know you had no clue this was to come. My heart has no resentment. I knew your words were true. I know now your swimming back across that ocean coming back to me. After all, you never broke a promise. And ill never break mine. My promise that ill always love you, that ill never let this slow me down. Even now I'm packing my bags and getting ready to tell them to stop this train. Ill walk this thousand miles. Ill sail across this ocean. Ill find you. It will take months, maybe a year, but ill never surrender. When I find you, lets lay by the riverside and talk til the nights nearly over.
