Turn The Sea Red And The Sky Black.

by Spoken Silence   Jun 25, 2008

We are the men who fight on the beach,
We turn the sea red and the sky black.
As we hope for a better day.

We are the poets without an arm,
Therefore we can no longer write.
We are the fathers that cannot hear our children's cries.
The effects of each war change us.

I cry for the ones that died so young.
A boy died today,
Eighteen was his age.
Fresh out of high school and straight to war he said.
Fight for my country.

He fought hard in battle, as many men did.
He was the man who fought by the beach.
He turned the sea red and the sky black.
As he hoped for a better say.
Such a shame that he couldn't see the light of the new day.

I enjoyed the idea for this write and think, though done well, it needs a better metre/rhythm. Perhaps:

We are the men who fight on the beach,
We turn the sea red and the sky black.
As we hope for a better day.

We are the poets without an arm,
Therefore we can no longer write.
Fathers, that cannot hear our children's cries.
The effects of each war change us.

I cry for the ones that died so young.
    A boy died today,
    Eighteen was his age.
Out of high school, straight to war he said.
    "Fight for my country."

He fought hard in battle, as many men did.
He was the man who fought by the beach.
He turned the sea red and the sky black.
As he hoped for a better way.
A shame, he didn't see the light of the new day.

    As always an opinion
