Should Have Been There

by KelleyJo   Jul 15, 2008

It was just a party
You said I should go,
And you know me well enough
That I rarely say No.
So we went to the party
And you had a few drinks,
Then after a while
It wasn't clear for you to think.
Someone took me by the hand
And let me to the dance floor,
I should have been there
When you opened that car door.
You got behind that wheel
And drove down the road,
You didn't see the truck
That was carrying the heavy load.
So now as I'm watching
Your casket lowered beneath the ground
I can't help but knowing
I should have stopped you before your first round.
And I can't help but wondering
If it was my fault for you losing your life,
But I guess that's what happens
When friends let friends drink and drive.
