The Penalty For Defying

by StarvingForPerfection   Jul 16, 2008

Hight heels clatter on the pavement,
Red lipstick smeared along the corners of her mouth,
Diamond rings as false as the nails on her fingers,
She has lost herself.

The dollar bills she holds in her pocket,
Only last her a dime or two,
But she will take it, she can make it,
Just one more person she's got to do.

Deep insider her,
Her heart is shattered,
Her lungs are blackened,
Her life is tattered,
Her wings are broken,
Her words unspoken,
The only way out is to let it all
...go.

Way back home in her apartment,
Corsets lace in hungry anticipation,
She knows what to do, she knows the drill,
Learning best from her vocation.

Frail hands reach the brassy handle,
Ready to begin her line of work,
As she steps out she finds him waiting,
Her eyes linger on the dirk.

Deep insider her,
Her heart is shattered,
Her lungs are blackened,
Her life is tattered,
Her wings are broken,
Her words unspoken,
The only way out is to let it all
...go.

Face twisted in bemusement,
Eyes wide opened with fear,
This was the penalty for defying,
They will make her disappear.
