Winding Downward

by Syrus   Jul 17, 2008

When he fell, a blanket of fear wrapped around his body
He watched helplessly as it became all out of reach
He was sinking in, deeper and deeper and deeper
He watched as his life was becoming faded
Memories disappearing, faces becoming jaded
He watched as his heart was taken away,
And how each day it would not be him to greet her
He felt his life slipping ever closer, everyday
Into that once dark place he never wanted to return
So inside his mind a battle raged on
His life on the line, a love put to the test
A promise he kept close to his side...
He had sunk, he had fallen, he had been beaten,
He watched as it all went away slowly, ever so slowly
Like time was stopping just for him
Just so he could endure this horrid nightmare
So he could live it out as long as it wanted,
Dragging it out to points beyond human sanity
Beyond will, beyond belief, beyond measure
He walked right into every blow that came
Pushing onward without care or feeling,
Holding on as tight as he could to his promise,
But when the light broke through all was silent
He took a gun to his heart and never looked back...
He had killed what was inside, that raging demon
That bitterness, that seclusion, that torment, that pride,
And all that was darkened, but most of all that fear,
He had turned to light to guide his soul away,
Leaving behind a life he once knew well of,
And into the unknown he now travels along this winding road...
