Diamond in the Rough [Spills Rubies]

by thesuffocationinsafety   Jul 30, 2008

There was a young girl
that i once knew
she could be anything
she wanted to

That girl was confused
and messed up inside
pretended it was OK
to let her feelings hide

Played life like a game
always keeping score
how many she fooled
with the fake smile she wore

Master of her craft
at pretending she was best
could have gone so far
farther than the rest

Extraordinary girl
a diamond in the rough
finally decided
she had had enough

Tired of pretending
living a life so fake
not knowing who she really was
was what she couldn't take

Shining silver
a glint of gold
rubies will come
from the blade she holds

Welcomed the warmth of the shower
pretended it was rain
swaying side to side silver
she greeted the pain

Glistening like the blade
the rubies fell to the floor
she watched and cried silently
as they continued to pour

She thought of her loved ones
and what they would think
when they discovered the truth
written in blood red ink

"I'm sorry I lied"
smeared upon the door
"at least you can see now
I'm not pretending anymore"

Extraordinary girl
the diamond in the rough
finally decided
she had had enough
