The doll (part one through four)

by resisting reason   Aug 30, 2008

Your skin is made of porcelain
It is soft and smooth
Mostly white with a tint of red
To precious to move

Your dress is woven in silk
Silk black, beautiful and rare
It accentuates your porcelain skin
And your long golden hair

Your eyes are made of glass
But they're of the most stunning blue
I cant look at the sky
Without being reminded of you

But My fragile child
You need a name
Something like your skin
Something the same

From high up in the clouds
The shining space
Where the sun pokes through
Ill call you grace

Just like In heaven
Where the angels rest
But you need not worry
You are the best

I can promise that
Ill keep you safe
I can promise that
You'll never break

The doll
(part 2)

But one day
She left it unattended
And something happened
That was never intended

The window was open
It was on the tables ledge
And a strong gust of wind
Pushed it over the edge

And heard from the other room
A heartbreaking crash
As grace fell and shattered
Into nothing more than porcelain glass

The promise was broken
Just like the imaginary child
Because promises were meant to last
For only a short while

The doll
(part 3)

Grace my child
Look what you've done
You've broken my heart
And left me with none

Now I'm alone
Why did you leave
Only pieces remain
Of you and me

You were perfect
You were the best
Now look at you
You're just a mess

Totally worthless
Dead to me
A nothing child
Died perfectly

The doll
(part 4)

Swept up in a box
And Tossed aside
Nothing but garbage
To be placed outside

Waiting on the curb
To be taken away
Someone noticed the porcelain pieces
Once called grace

"what a sin" he said
As he gathered the shards
"you'll be beautiful again"
"just a little scarred"

It didn't take long
To bring her back
No longer perfect
But A little cracked
